Laois / Re: Laois Senior Hurling Championship

The 2025 SHC could look like as follows (with apologies in advance to both Colt Shanahoe and Clonaslee, based on current form )

Ballacolla
Harps
Abbeyleix
Rosenallis

Rathdowney
Portlaoise
Camross
Castletown

and potentially 2 from 3 of the following;  Borris,Ballinakill or Ballyfin

who wouldnt drag the standard of the 2025 Championship down, in fairness to any of the 3 clubs

I think the poll speaks for itself.

A straight vote between an 8 team and a 12 team championship would have resulted in 8.

I wonder what a straight vote between 8 team and 10 team would have resulted in.

The biggest problem is that we are going to be stuck with this for a very long time.

Good luck getting any of the clubs ranked 5-10 in the SHC or any of the IHC clubs voting for multiple relegations in the same year.

That's my biggest fear with it.
It's not going to be easy to revert.

Yep 14 votes in total on an anonymous forum

That surely must be very representative of every hurling supporter in the county on the topic, all right

The Clubs voted for it so they were in favor of it

That's Democracy

That's the second time in about a fortnight that someone suggested doxing this poster. I can't remember who the other person who suggested it was

If you don't like what he has to say.....block him

In fact, Whitey, it's the third time he's threatened to dox me! But, never mind!

Couple of things might amuse you: on the Laois forum a poster insinuated Clonadmad wasn't even from Laois, and he got a little high and mighty about it! Now, whether he's from Laois or not, I don't know, but if he's not - well, y'know, him having a go at you for living in America is a tad rich.

And from a discussion on a club getting transfers:

I couldn't agree more!!

It wasn't "a poster"

It was You

Who made allegations against me on a laois gaa thread

which were completely incorrect and which affected a completely innocent party who isn't even a poster on here

Screenshots of the allegations you made were then circulated outside of here and clubs then got involved

The mods here then had to get involved

And you were warned that if you stepped out of line once more

You'd be facing a permanent ban

Sorry, pal - you have the wrong guy.

Not really when I have the correspondence to hand

It's also interesting to see the exact same allegations being made on another thread in the last 3/4 days

The timing is interesting though

None of these allegations made in the last 12/14 months

The minute I challenge you here on this thread

Up they pop

Anyways a job for the mods to deal with

Haven't a clue what you're on about. How the hell would I know - or care - if you're from Kilkenny, Tipperary, or Tyrone?!

And you chided someone else for "running to the mods"?!

You'd argue with your own shadow, you know that?!

An innocent party who isn't a poster on here was singled out for abuse in real life

When those allegations were made last year

You repeated the same allegation here today

That's why the mods have been informed

August 17, 2024, 06:29:22 PM
Quote from: Downtheroad on August 16, 2024, 10:27:23 PMThe vote last year if I recall correctly was tight decided principally by a few football only clubs who were probably lobbied by one or two hurling clubs who were actively pushing it. Usually football clubs would abstain if they had no skin in the game. That's democracy. It's done and dusted for the next few years but it doesn't mean it was the right decision. Funny enough, I think it will level out the Premier Intermediate division but could well lead to the likes of Camross and Rathdownwy/Errill winning it. I expect B/K to win Premier Intermediate but it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that a second team could get to the final.

Clubs were first asked to vote on whether or not to retain the current eight-team system and that was narrowly defeated.

They were then asked to choose between 10 and 12 teams with the 10 team format

unanimously

wining out.

Bloated SHC will allow the top clubs to mind their first 17 for longer.

As well as weakening their competition by taking two of the stronger clubs out of the PIHC.

Have they decided what happens to the 5 teams after the group?

I presume it's
1- SF
2- QF
3- QF
4- Year over
5- Relegation Playoff

Or is 4 also in relegation danger?

For a lad that thinks he knows everything

I'm surprised you don't know how the 2025 SHC will work

⬇️

The championship will be played on a round robin league basis, with teams criss-crossing and playing a team in the opposite Group in each round.

So while you are playing teams from the opposite group, your points total is up against the teams in your group and each team will have five matches.

The top team in each group will go to the semi final while the second and third teams will face off in a quarter final.

The fourth-placed team will be out while the bottom side in each group will play the relegation final.

For the cost of 1km of tramway in Ireland

The Germans can build nearly 5km

The Chinese stuff is amazing

We could also ask the Russians who seem to have built a railway from Mariupol to Crimea in double quick time.

The Chinese

Laying more new track in a day than the Irish have laid in 40 years

The Italians and Spanish might be a better bet than the Ruskies 😉

I read somewhere recently that every 1km of underground rail cost the Brits £1bn

While the Italians were doing it for €100m per km

It's  mad when you think about how far ahead they're looking at. 2050? Ffs that is 26 years away!  Its too  far away for anyone to think  about or care about. It's needed now.

I actually flew into Belfast city  on the first weekend they opened the  new terminal in 2001.  The  airport stop  is pretty much redundant as it involves walking along  the busy dual carriageway .  They've talked about moving the train stop further down  to accommodate  the new terminal. 23 years later , it still hasn't happened.  They'll probably  still be talking about it  in 2050.

So realistically, what are the chances of  a railway from Portadown  to Derry, or down to the midlands if an airport stop is taking 23 years,  and counting?

From 2007 in relation to a fairly simple spur to Shannon Airport which would have brought about the first rail connected airport on the island

⬇️

The Irish Times report said the following:

"The feasibility study by MVA Consultants has put a cost of €700 million on constructing the rail link. However, this has been disputed by the locally-based Shannon Rail Partnership which claims that the rail link will cost €240 million."
