Quote from: snoopdog on Today at 11:26:03 AMThanks all for the suggestions. The building I'd prob end up having to do ;D . But yep def want something that can be upgraded and added too so I don't have to spend another fortune in 2 years time.

In this respect a desktop machine is more flexible than laptops which are something of a package (although I did add more RAM to one) and things like monitors can do for years.

At least as important a factor, though, was the consensus sentiment that football needed help. For all that we had a great championship with unexpected winners, there is a crisis for the GAA in the collapse of attendance, especially in Leinster and an improved game may not be a comprehensive response. But it will be a start.

I'm not sure that any change in the rules will help the Leinster championship.

Quote from: Substandard on Today at 01:14:22 AMI don't know, I suppose the best thing to do is keep yourself as informed as you need to be and keep an open mind, but try not to over-think things.  Easier said than done, but the world has managed OK in the grand scheme of things up to now, so there's no reason it won't continue to do so.
I'm just too tired to handle much more chaos...

The point is that modern technology also allow you be informed. In Brexit there were things said that could have been debunked on Google in 20 seconds, but voters either wanted to believe something that suited their prejudices or else they were too lazy to bother checking, not least because Brexit wasn't that important to a lot of people. I think that democracies need some regulation of this, you are entitled to your opinion but facts should be stated clearly.

Quote from: snoopdog on December 04, 2024, 09:42:49 PMHi. Looking for a gaming pc for a 14 yr old.  It will be his 1st. Not looking at spending a fortune but want something good that he won't be looking for an upgrade in 18 mths. Are acer and lonovo the big brands fornthis. Went to Harvey norman but the sales guy was a bit shit. The young lad says the graphics are the big.thing?
He jas looked at vibox and they're available on amazon but what comeback do I have on amazon if it has to be returned.
All ideals welcome. Hoping to not spend more than 1,600 euros.

1600 will get you a lot of spec. Would you/he consider building it yourself? If so, you can save a lot. And belive me it's not complicated. If you can put together a lego set, you can build a gaming PC. I've built 2 for the kids and enjoyed the process. It was a fun thing to do with them too.

I'd start here: https://www.boards.ie/categories/pc-building-upgrading

Some very knowledgeable people who will steer you right. And if you want to the amateur perspective, feel free to message me.

Also, if you are in building frame of mind then upgrading the machine in a couple of years is replacing one element, not buying a new machine.

Quote from: thewobbler on December 04, 2024, 09:04:24 PMIt's all the direct result of the destruction of the written word, the worst of the many evil byproducts of the internet/information age.

The dissemination of information was never a perfect process, but not so long ago, it took time, knowledge and diligence to become published in any sphere. The overseers of the written word were (largely) aware that they had a duty in accuracy. Hence when they held someone accountable, it was trusted, and it would destroy a career. So people innately had to be more careful in their actions.

Whereas nowadays the majority of published content (including this post) is absolute nonsense. Sources cannot be trusted. Expertise is challenged by all and any. The churn is too fast for anyone to process. And a result the written word no longer matters, and nobody can ever be held accountable.

Well said, and of course this particular post is not nonsense. The point is though that we can as anonymous posters type in something in 3 minutes and this is altogether a more ephemeral process than publishing in the traditional sense. Some people do not seem to see the difference.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on December 03, 2024, 09:28:53 AMI'd say if there is a UI then the likes of FF and FG will fall way behind a SF count

Why? The only distinct thing about SF will have ended. FF and FG will suit Ireland as well then are they do now and if people people want a left option there will be real ones.

So that people can choose the government that they want. What is the point of democracy anywhere?

Quote from: Blowitupref on December 02, 2024, 05:41:37 PMJust four seats to be filled. All in the Cavan/Monaghan area and at the moment it looks like two more seats for FF and one for SF and 1 for AON.

It will be 2 FF and 2 SF, AOntú best runner up. This gives
FF 48
SF 39
FG 38

How much house will €955.49 per week buy?

About 600 blocks.

Quote from: NAG1 on December 02, 2024, 11:06:01 AMI wasn't referring to disenfranchised in terms of their vote, more that they are disenfranchised from access to housing, access to a fair economy and access to employment and opportunities.

Housing is certainly an issue, but people today have a much better economy, more access to education and employment and so more opportunities than their parents or grandparents ever had.
