Give him a break we know what he was getting atQuote from: Billys Boots on September 07, 2011, 05:15:28 PMWhy would a team who had just won back to back championships have to combine with another team the following year?
In Longford, the Senior Football Championship has been won by seven different teams in the last decade, as follows:
Clonguish: 03, 04 & 05
Dromard: 05 & 07
Colmcille: 08
Longford Slashers: 10
Abbeylara: 06
Ballymahon: 02
Drumlish: 01
All of the above winners have also each lost at least one final in the last decade, with the exception of Abbeylara (who last lost in 1999).
Also, why was the championship not played in '09?

Russia have been ropey enough since the match @ Lansdowne. But I'd tend to agree with LL, will be good going to get a draw, a win and 3 points would be unreal
Plus, cannot believe an international football match of this importance is allowed to be played on a plastic pitch. What next, playing with a half pumped ball?'mon to feck Ireland!
Quote from: zoyler on September 07, 2011, 10:59:30 AMAs the yanks say, no such thing as bad publicity when it comes to these sorts of things
To quote another ad 'I'm lovin' it!!'
Already they have had a big article in the Indo condeming the campaign- just like last year! The PCs should remember that the more they complain the more Hunky Dorys love it!

But as jinxy said we need to wake up and smell the coffee. Current format is grand for near all Gaels but does the bare minimum in promoting our sport. Ill give you an example, I wouldn't really have a notion about motor sport or be a fan of it, but in recent years have found myself watching a fair bit of due to the structure and layout of the program, with the track side previews before the race. Now if they had the same approach as the GAA into this build up, I wouldn't watch it for a second.
Why this need to have people pitchside, have cameras on buses etc?
What the feck has that got to do with a game of football or hurling? Why do you want cameras in tunnels? Why do we need to know how people are warming up? Cameras on the heads of the Artane boys?
Feck sake, just watch the game and make a cup of tea in between.
Edit: sorry when I said motor sport and was basically referring to F1
dunno if RTE would be allowed try that. Certianly not with our weather and the prospect of wet t shirt women and the rows that would cause in the homes around Ireland !!

Quote from: sheamy on September 01, 2011, 11:31:18 AMI agree with all of this. Some you boys are either gifted writers or have more time on their hands than I do! I choose the latter
I agree entirely. This should spur attack minded coaches on. I could give a history here from Tony Hanahoe insipring Mickey Harte to disregard conventional positions. However, I can't be arsed and there's no point.
I stated the game was awful. It was, but it's not to do with the positional tactics. It's the sheer level of cynical and nasty incidents in the game which ruined it. I flicked between RTE and BBC after the game. On the one hand you had the waxing lyrical hysteria of the three clowns on RTE contrasting with the cold reflections of Mickey Harte, Martin McHugh and Jarlath Burns.
Now Jarlath is more emotional that the other two so he was gonna change all the rules that night. Mickey stated the most obvious thing. Referees need to consistently apply the rules of the game. Cynical fouls need punished hard. That's what is ruining the game. Fouling is paying off. If a team are good enough to be able to hold the ball, work it up the pitch without a turnover, then get all their men back then that's perfection and should be applauded. This is what Kerry will do in the final, or attempt to. They'll have 8-9 men in defence at most times.
The problem is the likes of Donegal (and Dublin and alot of other teams) just foul immediately after they make a mistake. It's an art form if done right and always goes unpunished. A skillful team therefore don't ever get the chance to mount a fast breakout and you don't get the fast paced end to end action which you see in soccer sometimes (which has a similar defensive ethos).
If Jarlath and the lads are now on a rules committee then I suggest that they look into what Mickey is saying (poacher turned gamekeeper too). The type of fouls that go unpunished are the things that are ruining the game.
