Croke Park to be upgraded

Seems like revenue-generating facilities will get an update. Sounds sensible to me. No point in offering conference facilities if they're 15 years out of date.

They have to.plan for when fans stop going to the football final because nobody cares how much Dublin win.

Have they not bought a place across the road from Croke Park - an old residential house with lands around it??

Or is that another plan in the pipeline?

I suppose they have to upgrade for stuff outside of football. Conferences, Concerts and the Museum. People from counties outside of Dublin will only be going to the Museum anymore to reminisce of glories past. Makes sense to invest here, it will probably be the busiest part of the Stadium.

What is it now that the Dubs are going for? 7 in a row?

If the GAA now have enough of the land in the area behind the Cusack Stand, the next time Croke Park is redeveloped they could flip it 90 degrees and have enough area to build a completely enclosed, multi-tiered stadium.

70m though, thats crazy money. Yet no money for counties to run the national league. Have the GAA forgot their purpose?

When did this happen?

There is a debate at the moment about whether they will be run or not, one of the big arguments is that there is no government aid coming for counties which means the GAA will lose a pile of money if they cover it. No decision is made but it seems to be in the balance as a lot of top brass dont think they should cover it. Of course there are other pro's and con's in the mix too.

Itchy, quick point of order:

An expense is a direct cost of running a business or providing a service. It would be a rare event for a financial institution to consider lending money for such activities.

An investment is a financial expenditure with a purpose of increasing revenues, and unless the bean counters have it inside out, those revenues will more than cover the initial outlay, so much so that borrowing the capital required is often an attractive option.

What you're doing above is comparing apples with exhaust pipes.

I get that. And I imagine the GAA are quite cash rich so I am not sure what amount of loans they need for capital projects of expenditure. Plus it may be rare to borrow for expenditure but in the case of a covid pandemic maybe not so rare? Governments are borrowing for it quite a lot too.

Green field site on a good network road with access to motorway. Well done Louth gaels.

As an side, re: the location. Was there much hassle in moving the location from Drogheda to Dundalk? Like can the Louth Board now sell the Drogheda pitch for housing as it's on the edge of the town?

New stadium could be built by the time we get back to playing.

ive always heard that keeping the hill was a choice so the poor chisslers of Dubin could afford to go and watch Dublin , Talk as well about refunding their bus fare if they bring a friend
