Aidan O'Shea took a line-ball backwards there. Ref missed it.

Wasn't a line ball. It was a free

Last night AOS fairly dispossessed the Galway keeper as he tried to solo up the field

The ball hit the referee on the heel and was immediately retrieved by Mayo

The ref then gave a hop ball.

Was that the right decision?

I actually thought the ball ran loose and was about to be picked up by a Galway player.

Hmm....I was fuming because Mayo were in possession and the keeper was 30 yards from his own  goal

I'll see if I can watch it back

I could be wrong but I thought he gave a free to Galway and changed to a hop ball after the keeper deciding he wanted a bit of afters. But like most decisions Maurice Deegan makes its anyone guess what happened

I find find it gas that managers like Rory Gallagher, Paddy Tally and Stephen Poacher are the ones so vocal about this,  and what is there complaint, wait for it. It is cutting out goal chances. Ya couldn't make this shit up. Managers who spend all preseason devising systems which results in all players behind the ball with the basic instruction to try and stop the other team scoring are complaining because a new rule stops the opposition team scoring.  Something don't add up. What is it they say. Doth protest too much

Nice to see some of them hidings that James Horans team dished out to Galway in his last spell still rankles. More of them would do nicely.

GAA Discussion / Re: Money, Dublin and the GAA

Where is all the money that is been pumped into Dublin Gaa going. They are attracting huge sponsors. The clubs have massive membership and should be self sufficient with not only money for facilities but volunteers for coaching. Its seemingly not been spent on the intercounty teams. So what return are the government or the gaa or who is providing these massive grants getting back for it.

What ever happened to the old mantra "Dublin winning an All Ireland is good for the Gaa"

Now that Cork football is at such a low point should the Gaa consider pumping huge amounts of money, lets say 16 million over 10 years or something like that into Cork Gaa and whilst at it cut off vital funding to all other counties. And then just to put the icing on the cake lets move all serious football matches into parc ui choaimh. Let them have home advantage in all championship matches.

Cork Football is competing with so many other sports, surely a solution like this can only benefit the Gaa.

We would still have a problem with the population but maybe a couple of rule changes like Cork would have first dibs on players from all of Munster would help.

It may seem radical and may not go down well in the capital but the organisation has to step up for the "good of the GAA"

Could Michael Martin as Taoiseach deliver something like this

Maybe time for Mike Connelly to step forward and finally take back full control for the county board by announcing himself as the next Mayo manager. He definitely seems to have all the answers when pontificating to the delegates at the Co Board meetings

Horan was probably always going to rule himself out when asked so soon after Rochfords departure. He says the environment isn't right at the moment but who's to say it wont be better in a few weeks time. I seem to remember Pat Holmes ruling himself out in 2015 but when the Co. Board want their man they will move mountains to get him whoever that may be.

Ya can talk about Mayo 2017, Galway 2001 etc till the cows come home. The simple fact of the matter is it's August. Galway don't do football after July anymore. To worried about racing and festivals and posing up and down shop street to be worried about football this time of year

Dear dear dear. Like saying Mayo don't do football after August anymore.

Its not really thou, is it.

I don't know. Galway fans seem happy with it so who am I to say different but Kevin Walsh has been in charge of Galway for 4 years and despite beating Mayo in 3 of them, they haven't performed in one single game after July. ie the serious end of the championship. In fact they have played 5 games in August under his reign and have lost by a combined total of 44 points.

The only thing that surprised me about brolly's incoherent ramblings last night is that he didn't suggest calling it the Joe Brolly cup. Maybe he didn't like the idea of putting his name to a second tier competition.

Nothing to do with respecting decisions.
How many watches would the ref need if he sin binned 3 or 4 lads in a short period?
He'll have no neutral linesmen or umpires and certainly no sideline official.

Ah come on. Surely someone could design some sort of device or app that could so this. Probably already something in the app store that can run a few timers at the same time and give an alarm when 10 mins are up

Fair enough but surely its not healthy to have such an obvious bad natured campaign against a player through media like what happened keegan  two years ago,I dunno but I think it crossed the line .its one thing to be playing down your counties chances with a bit of beal bocht but to me that seemed extreme .

James Horan is in national spotlight too but for a smart guy he seems to go the other end of the scale altogether , absolutely mocked Galway in the run up to last couple of championship clashes .we know how they ended

Horgan had right go at Johnny Cooper on Eir a few weeks ago. Hmmm what's that pot, kettle, blaack

What he say about him

Called him out for his diving antics.
That's outrageous. Surely deserves a boycott and a firm response from Jim Gavin. Jonny Cooper diving. Come on James seriously. He should be giving credit to Cooper and the Dublin medical team for the way they get him through some games after the serious injuries he receives. That magic spongue to the head treatment is such a medical breakthrough.

Doc challenge was much more deliberate than coc and for me that makes it the least acceptable of the two. Coc didn't raise his arm above the horizontal, to me he didn't go out of his way to strike the head of the corner-back. It's an off the ball challenge and a red but not worth the angst that it's causing so many haters.

Doc knew exactly what he was doing though, in his eyes it was payback and despite being the player who'll get off more likely in was definitely the more vindictive challenge.

Considering DOC more or less carried a Mayo U21 All Ireland it's amazing how he has never pushed on to be a top senior footballer. They just don't seem to be bringing any fresh blood into the team and come the summer it will be the same senior players they are relying on. I'd question the coaching in the county that they can't bring through any decent two footed forwards in years

Did he? not for his scoring anyway

V Leitrim 1-0 (a penalty)
V Roscommon 0-0
V Dublin 1-1
V Cork 1-0

Correct me if Im wrong but didnt he play in midfield for most of the championship?

I think if it was in the Dublin game he made a vital interception in his own goalmouth.

Hard to be racking up big scores if youre making incredible plays 130 yards away down the other end of the field.

He was named player of the U21 Championship for 2016

http://www.eirgridgroup.com/newsroom/u21-player-of-the-year/

He was flat out excellent in every game he played

He was carrying that form into the senior championship in 2016 until he was taken out of with a cheap shot from a kildare lad. Similar to 2015 when another cowardly cnut decided the only way of stopping him was to try and break his legs. Didnt stop him winning ypoty. But sure what about it, he should suck up this treatment from the cheap shot merchants and just get on with it
