General discussion / Keg Thefts !!
January 20, 2014, 09:14:31 PM

Still a big market for stainless steel. Are the days of plasterers using them as scaffolds and farmers making cattle troughs out of them over?

Dont know if theres a thread on this already - sorry if there is but with the deadline looming and so few people having paid to date whats the general concensus here? I havent paid it either but probably will next week some time. I guess a property tax is a must for the country to begin steady revenue streams in the future.

General discussion / Pensions :-(
October 17, 2011, 10:23:39 PM
Watching George Lee there on about the pensions time bomb. Poor private sector workers are screwed - lost a pile of their pension pots in the last few years while the public sector are laughing with their guaranteed benefits. Eg -  a teachers pot would cost about 1.28 million to the tax payer to provide!!

I see Lidl have 1300W Electric scarifiers for sale next week for 99 euros. Has anyone here bought one previously and are they any good? My lawn is a mat of moss and needs a bit of work done to it.

General discussion / Rats deserting the sinking ship!

Reports this evening that there will be only about 60 sitting FF TD's heading into the next election.
Looks like some of these gangsters/parasites havent even the balls to face the electorate and take the hiding that they deserve. Instead they are retiring for various " health/family/personal" reasons and laughing and sniggering at us all with their self imposed pension entitelements and severance payoffs etc. It makes me sick I'll tell ya.  >:( >:(

McDowell calls for national holiday on 12 July
Wednesday, 21 July 2010 17:58
Former Minister for Justice and Progressive Democrats leader Michael McDowell has said that 12 July should be made a national holiday in the south as well as in Northern Ireland.

Mr McDowell said that if we were genuine republicans and if the orange panel in the flag meant anything, then we had to consider building an inclusive society.

He was speaking at the MacGill Summer School in Co Donegal.

The former Justice Minister said that the stakes are high.

He asked if the Good Friday Agreement was a sticking plaster over an open and infected wound or a stage on the path of genuine reconciliation.

Looks like we could be getting another day off and have 2 official days for parades in Ireland!!!

The suggestion of allowing public sector workers to take 12 days unpaid leave instead of an across the board pay cut shows how inept this government is. This is just pure bullying tactics by the P.S. unions and everybody could see their smiley happy faces on telly last night after they decided to call off tomorrows strike.
Example - reading in todays Indo on how the unpaid leave would impact on teaching is a joke - just dont pay them in the summer time for 12 days when they are doing nothing anyway. These public sector employees need to wise up and realise that the country is in dire straits. They should try actual work in the private sector where reality bites every day and job security is always a cause of worry. I for example, work from 7:15am to 6 pm every day (no overtime) just to get my work done because there is no resources to get extra help.

Looks like we could be heading up to Dundalk for a spot of gambling and a bit of craic.

New complex could create 1,500 jobs

Monday November 23 2009

Ambitious plans have been unveiled for a €430m ski, casino and all-weather tourism complex near the border.

Developers claim about 1,500 jobs will be created at the Altitude snow sports and leisure centre just outside Dundalk over the next seven years.

Investors are also banking on the Government loosening gambling laws, clearing the way for a casino with the entire complex potentially attracting six million people a year.

Sam Curran, one of the developers, said the centre will be built in phases with the ski facility one of the first to open.

"We've done very extensive work over the last 30 months to fine-tune what we include in our plans," he said.

"We are completely satisfied that the mix of different elements we propose will prove a compelling attraction, not only to the regional and national market across the island of Ireland but also to overseas visitors.

"The elements we will provide are not available at any other single site in Ireland or the UK while many of the individual parts also have no direct comparison here at present."

The development is planned for a 29 acre site just off the M1 Dublin-Belfast motorway at Dowdallshill, Dundalk.

It will include ski and nursery slopes; a 100-plus bed family hostel; 110,000-sq ft indoor concert arena; cinema, tenpin bowling and children's zone; 40,000-sq ft surf and swim centre; sports and leisure stores, restaurants and bars. Later phases will include additional hotel accommodation and the international casino.

Developers claim it will create 1,198 full-time and 388 casual direct jobs. It is hoped work can begin early next year with the first attractions due to open in the first half of 2011 and other phases to be introduced over the next five years.

The new Microsoft operating system - is it any good? Should one invest in it and do away with Vista for running the laptop?

Well folks, Mayo were favourites to be there. Instead we have got Meath. I hope we dont lie down like 2001. Heres hoping we can extract some revenge for that dark day in 2001!
