Yeah McGovern came on for Guinness because of his early yellow. Then McGovern got black carded for trying to trip a clare player. Deserved to ve taken off for that alone. He put his team under pressure for a silly decision. I'm sure he will learn from that.

Quote from: Armagh18 on March 25, 2024, 09:39:39 AMThe black box thing is a load of shite. Driving too slow is hazardous as well. Limiting young ones to 1.2 litre would make more sense.

Good idea, Very hard to police though.

I see vans are limited to 50mph.

Think it be handy enough to police, when getting insurance and your licence issue date is within the last 2 years when the insurer puts the vehicle reg in it gives you the vehicle details. if its engine size is over 1.2 then they cant offer a policy. honestly, the saying speed kills is so true, not saying it'll solve everything but it would certainly cut down on how severe some accidents are.
The 1.2 will soon be nulled when everyone is in an electric car that goes from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds.

No problem with staging a game. The  aviva prob shouldn't be hosting concerts during a season thry know it may be needed. But croke pk hosting a fan zone? I hope they're getting well paid for that. Because they charge their own patrons enough to view their games.

Andy Moran desperately wants to play the div 4 league final. He said it will be a massive week in Leitrim ahead of their trip to croke pk.  Div 3 final winners have  a Sam maguire place to play for.

Quote from: Itchy on March 24, 2024, 05:45:15 PMAccording to radio 1 today, they said Down secured All Ireland football for this season. But that's not necessarily true. A lot of people not up to speed on how this is done

On the laws of probabilities as it stands, For Down to qualify for Sam, they obviously need to win the division 3 title and are reliant on Louth reaching the provincial final in Leinster.
Due to the Munster draw, If Cork had of continued their earlier league performances and been relegated, this would have freed up another spot.

Does the higher ranking go to the division 3 winner or the higher placed team in the league?

If it's higher placed team in the league then Down are ranked 15th. Munster will produce at least one finalist outside the top 16. Ulster and Connacht likely won't (although might) so realistically it comes down to who makes it to the final in Leinster from the non Dublin side of the draw. Anyone other than Louth would push Down out of the all Ireland unless they make the Ulster final.

Would down prefer not to be in the Tailtean?

Yes, Down would prefer not to be in the Tailteann. No one wants to be in the Tailteann but if that's where Down end up then they will try and win it like they tried last year. All Down can do is win their next 3 games and guarantee the All Ireland series place.

Armagh would be a couple of years ahead of Down. Down won't beat Arnagh if they meet in Ulster. In saying that, there isn't really any fear for Down ahead of next year's div 2.

Well done to the footballers. Close 1st half but controlled the game in the 2nd half pulling up. Div 3 promotion achieved and undefeated. A game next sat night to look forward to in Croke Park.

Just want to get out of div 3 at this stage. Will worry about Sam maguire series later.

Tough game in Newry ahead. Clare look to be a good outfit. They had a last minute goal against westmeath wrongly chalked off. Pressure for Down. They didn't cope that geat with the pressure last week. This will be our most important game of the year. Another year in div 3 and heads will drop. Hopefully if we perform like we can then a win is there. Best of Luck to the team.

Southgate again linked to the utd job. That would be a disastrous appointment. Hopefully it's nonsense.

Quote from: onefineday on March 20, 2024, 12:52:49 AMAs someone said earlier, the prize below div 1 is promotion. I know as a Derry fan, I had little interest in the league finals over the past few years after promotion had been achieved.  I can see the argument for giving teams the chance to play their final in Croker, but with the condensed nature of everything nowadays, you'd have to question the interest that teams have in being there.  If they want to play them, that's grand, I've no objection, I just don't see the attraction myself.

Some interesting proposals around increasing the incentive to win the league too - I'd be hugely in favour of something that really rewards league performance and allows us to move on from this attitude of survival is the perfect outcome fr
om a div 1 campaign.
The Div 3 final will have a real say in who might get that Sam maguire place.

For the absolute life of me, I'll never understand why anyone would want to play in front of 5-10k people in Croke Park. The atmosphere is shit at these games. Absolute shit.
It's Croke Park. Its every players dream. 99% of players will never play in it.

Nonsense.

Every player's dream is to win championships. Some of that dream will involve Croke Park. But it's not the focus. Not even close.
So the schools finals shouldn't be played at croke pk infront of a few thousand. Sure who would want to play there.

Quote from: Blowitupref on March 17, 2024, 08:35:41 PMCredit to Clare to be even in the race for promotion with such a big player turnover and losing a very good long term manager.

Massive credit to their players and management for being in contention and they got screwed by ref in Westmeath game which could have had them in driving seat for promotion.

They'll most likely be in a Munster final also as they'll surely beat Tipp/Waterford, so they've a lot of big games ahead. They are picking off a very small pool so they are a great bunch to be fair to them. That being said they'll be a bit out of their depth currently in Sam Maguire.

Down faltered a bit during this league on occasion, was hoping they'd really push on and be good contenders in Ulster. Might still do, we'll see.

Down won't contend in Ulster thus year. Been playing at too low a level for too long. If we get past Antrim we meet Armagh most likely again. They've been playing at a higher level for a while. Down need to get out of div 3 and into the Sam maguire. Another year in 3 and the teilteann will be a disaster.

Quote from: Armamike on March 18, 2024, 11:28:29 AMBlew that one.  Man u were so poor that second half it seemed to lull Liverpool into a false sense of security.Age old lesson of football, when you have a team on the ropes, finish them.  Hopefully it will sharpen minds for the league game.

They both had 11 shots on target. United missed prob better chances than Liverpool. 2 from McTominay and 2 from Rashford also hojlund should've got on the end of a bruno cross. 2 deflected goals for Liverpool.
