Physicality is'nt all about height-Kenny, Mannion, Heneghan-There isn't many bigger full forward lines around. I reckon ye spared a few inches on your giants in midfield.

I think we can do but Ross will be hard beaten on their own turf. I would be much more confident if it was in our place as there haven't been many away victories in the championship so far.
As regards the team Egan is a non starter. He is back running but the best he can hope for is a place on the bench. Haven't heard if there are any further injuries in the camp. I have heard there have been encouraging results in challenge matches but they can sometimes give a false picture of a teams wellbeing.
I also think we need a fine day weather wise to be in contention. Ross are a big physical team whereas we would be more mobile and faster around the field. I wonder will Ross narrow the pitch like they did the last time the 2 teams met in the Hyde. ;)

Attended the Easkey Tourlestrane match at the weekend. Easkey were impressive in first half but rely too heavily on Sloyane for scores.
Second half belonged to Tourlestrane where they dominated midfield. Gary Gaughan is a great talent and one to look out for over the coming years-he contributed a point and set up a goal. Only flashpoint was Easkey midfielder elbowing Gaughan off the ball which resulted in a small fracas-the culprit only receiving a yellow.

Overall Tourlestrane have a very young team and have good strength in depth. Substitutes brought in all made good contributions and changed the game. With county lads to come back in, a few injuries to clear up with one or 2 coming back from sojourns abroad Tourlestrane will be in with a good shout to regain Owen B this year imo.

Good man all star (easier name to quote that the last one). I will be over to see ye in action tomorrow. Easkey will hardly bring the 'rent a mob' to an away game. There should be no lack of motivation to put one over on them.

Was talking to one of the lads a few weeks ago and training is going very well. More with the ball unlike last years expensive mistake. Still a few lads to come back in from Australia and England but tipping along nicely so far.

QuoteKarol O'Neill. He was simply awesome. I know he's a clubmate and I'll be accused of bias but I firmly believe that at present there is no better wing back in the county

I would agree to an extent-he has been injury plagued for much of his career. If he can stay injury free i would have him on starting 15.

Results are on the indo. Tourlestrane beat Bunniadden 1-6 to 0-11, Curry beat Harps, Ballymote hammered Castlconnor, Easkey beat Marys.

Its good to have so many options a few weeks away from championship. One which has been tried before and has failed is Davey at midfield. He simply does not defend in that position, his workrate for a midfielder is poor and he doesn't catch any ball either. I would have him on edge of the square or on the wing as he is accurate in front of goal. Also Martyn will come into contention but in fullback or half back line.

Never thought about O'Hara at 6. Mano - did you ever see him play there at club level? Interesting buckass I must say.
He played 6 a few years back when there was a few injuries in that position. He was able to surge forward and create scores but left a lot of space for the centre forward and you can't do that at county level.

I would find a place for Egan in the championship team preferably in the forwards. He was a forward all his life until Coirrigan put him at centre back 3 years ago. He is at his best i believe dropping back as a wing forward or corner forward and runnig at defences.

There are a lot of options on the bench this year which can only be good for competition for places.

I also would persist with Quinn. It is his first year back at this level after a break of a few years and i think he has done well. We don't have an abundance of high fielding midfielders in the county at the mement and i think Eamonn might be better placed on the wing.

Very good performance from what i heard on radio. A lot of lads like the 2 Daveys, Taylor, Curran, Sweeney coming back into form. In my opinion improved performance coincided with the improved weather and the hardening of the ground as there is a lot of speed throughout in the team.

To answer Sligonians question i don't think Sligo are a better team without O'Hara. I think they maybe played a lot harder to conteract his loss-however they have to keep this kind of workrate up. I think that or Egan should be considered for the roving corner forward role as they are both good defensively, are strong and are good carriers of the ball. Leave the 2 bigger lads around the middle

I am assuming O Hara will be suspended which is a huge blow-he needs to realise he cannot be mouthing at referees any longer.

Will Thomas Walshes transfer request go through this week-it appears Carlow have appealed the transfer again. If he plays he will be rusty anyway as he hasn't played this season yet.

As Stan said for the Irish team recently 'We don't play well in February'. A drier sod should help this light Sligo team-hoopefully they will pull it off at the weekend but it won't be easy in Aughrim

You obviously don't have a clue you clown

I agree to a certain extent with Myles. I have played with Eamon at club level and he is just ridicolous at talking to ref's. He is told before every game to keep his mouth shut but it makes no difference. The result is we rarelt get a fair deal from referees in te county. The lad is in his thirties now-he should know better

I might be mistaken here but was M Hughes the referree against Westmeath in the championship last year. He sent off O'Hara when should have been Davey and sent off Doohan for a fair shoulder.

Was listening to game on radio and the boys in the studio counldn't believe the bias for Cavan

QuoteR Cullen, S Colleary, S Clancy, P McGuinness, P Murphy 0-1, B Kennedy, B Hynes 0-1, F Roche 0-1, A McIntyre, N Quinn 0-2, M Gormley 0-1, B Neary, A Taaffe 0-1, M Gordon 0-2, D Walsh. Subs: M Brennan for Neary, S Stenson for Walsh.

Currys Sean Colleary is playing Sigerson with Sligo IT, Brian Kennedy is playing well since he returned from a serious knee injury, Brian Neary has done is cruciate. The St Johns lads including Roche have retired since minor level ;).

Big game on Sunday-O Hara is suspended afaik. We will need to win this home game as after this one we have 3 away and 1 at home.

Good to see a Sligo thread on this board again.

It should be a very open senior championship this year with many clubs of the same standard. With regard to my own club anything is better than the shambles of last year. Noone didn't have the respect of players, training was poor and disorganised, playing lads out of their normal position and gameplan was foreign to Tourlestranes normal style of play.

Bit surprised with the choice of the new manager. My choice would have been Anthony Brennan but he pulled out when he knew he had little support (He will do a great job with Tubber if of course they can tolerate the abuse been hurled at them from someone from their fiercest rivals.)  Haven't heard of any infighting with regard to the managerial decision. We are likely to be missing a few players from last year-young Neary has done his cruciate, King is out of the country and Matt Walsh likely to retire.

Find it hard to look past Curry unfortunately especially if Kearney stays in charge-they won last year without 2 of their best forwards Colleary and McDonagh. With them back playing no doubt they will be looking to win the all-Ireland club next year!!
