The championship matches thick and fast are going to be a problem for everyone, I'd have thought.  They may have been unlucky with injuries.

Dermot Brady must be in his mid 40s; he wasn't that much younger than Gavin.

What a great result that was for Bohs last night. Hopefully they can do the same in the second leg.

What a result against a club that are probably too big for that competition.  Fair play.

Happy of course that Longford survived. That first game againt Derry was an anomaly. Those feckers were training since Christmas, allegedly.

As for my thoughts on Cavan and Tipp? Shocking - esp for Cavan.  Tipp looked unfit yesterday and for Cavan to be beaten by Wicklow.......c'mon. Somethign not right in the camp if this happened. Is Mickey in charge at all?

Was Wicklow-Cavan in Aughrim?  Shennanigans??

Tried to read Jack Kerouac's On The Road. Just couldn't get into it, and gave up after a few dozen pages.

Have I missed anything?

No.

I liked it, though it was definitely of its time.

Great day - really enjoyed it.

QuoteI'd be interested in hearing opinions on Cooper's red card.

Very harsh, I thought.  The ball was there to be won - clearly the follow-through was dangerous, and I'm assuming the refs have been instructed that (in these circumstances) the decision is for a red.  But it is clearly wrong, in this circumstance.  There was no intention to hurt, or even make contact.  I don't think it would have been possible for Cooper (or anyone) to foresee that an injury would be caused, or even that he would make contact of any sort there.  So, what the officials are really saying is that if there is any risk of a defender causing injury to an attacker, they shouldn't go for the ball.  And that is ridiculous.  Over and out.

Peter Lorimer, Leeds Utd legend. RIP

Desperately sorry to hear this. A key part of the great side that Revie built at Leeds. So many fond memories of him in the white of Leeds and playing brilliantly for Scotland at the 74 World Cup, when they exited at the group stage despite being undefeated.

Peter made a brief comeback for Leeds in the mid eighties and I was lucky to see him strut his stuff, and indeed score a goal, on the opening day of the 1985/86 football season, when Leeds fell 3-1 at Craven Cottage. He was 37 / 38 and was the best player on the pitch.

May He Rest In Peace.

Cracking player, a childhood hero.  RIP.

They are just not the same side when Phillips is missing - the transitions are all wrong without him.

QuoteWe then did to Leicester what they did to us at Elland Road, soaked up the pressure and hit them on the break.

You see, this is why Leeds will pick up points against decent teams and struggle against poor teams.  While they are a possession-side, Leeds like to attack at speed, and for that they need space (to head into).  Leicester came to Elland Road and let Leeds have the ball, pour forward and leave gaps behind - at home, and playing well (against teams that wanted to keep the ball), they perhaps felt an onus to dominate possession, build chances, and turn over a team they'd beaten easily enough on the road.  And Leeds mugged them.  Contrast this with Manure at Old Trafford, who didn't want the ball, and won easily.  3 more wins from 18 will probably keep Leeds up, deservedly, but managers must be learning how to play them.  And they are such fun to watch.

Jerry pissed off a few of us years ago when he gave out about 'The GAH' getting so much airplay or money or something.

Jerry was an honest broker who called it as he saw it and was an athletics man 100% to the core.

RIP

He was pissed off that the Olympics fund was raided to give intercounty players 3k each. He went into orbit when it was suggested GAA players were just as fit and trained as hard as elite track and field athletes and as such deserved it.

And he wasn't wrong.

RIP Jerry, a true sportsman.  His honesty will be missed.

QuoteOnward to Old Trafford, which is equally unlikely to be dull.

It'll be a 0-0 borefest, I reckon.  :P

1982 World Cup legend Paolo Rossi.

That Italy-Brazil game is probably still the best game I've ever watched - such a clash of styles and approaches to the game.  I can remember it like it happened yesterday.  RIP Paolo.
