Shamrock Shore

I am surprised no thread exists.

Longford - holders for the past 2 years (technically correct) - will be anxious to impress under new manager Billy O'Loughlin.
And we did this on Sat turning a 0-14 to 0-06 deficit in the 10th min of the second half to a 2-13 to 0-14 win over Louth in Lanesboro.

Dublin edged out Offaly in the end in our group so we have Offaly in Faithful Fields on Wed and the carnival comes to town on Sat as we welcome the Dubs to Pearse Park.

Only one other result caught my eye.

Wexford beat 12 bales out of Laois. What is that about? Did Laois send out the minors?

Have Kildare peaked yet?

Hound

Dubs flattered by the final scoreline of 2-12 to 0-13 win over Offaly, last goal coming late on.

Struggling for depth in the forward line. Kilkenny the only regular who started in the forwards, and he was very good, but the other 5 did feck all - got one point from play between them and all were taken off.
There was some freetaking roulette going on with the responsibility being moved around after bad misses. Never a good sign.

Bugler was the star of the show getting 4 points from wing back. Gannon from Whitehall did well in defence. Good to see Shane Carthy of Nh Mearnog back in the mix and he did well in midfield.

Very heavy pitch, so shouldn't judge anyone too harshly.

Billy Sheehan is struggling to get players on board. 8 or 9 of last year's first 20 players are missing. We will be lucky to stay up in Division 3.

Dubs had a big win over Louth last night

Offaly beat us by a point. Smash and grab affair with Offaly scoring 1-01 in the last minute of added time. I think Longford used 11 subs so everyone is getting a chance to shine. Which is the point of January football. By all accounts Faithful Fields in Kilcormac is a fine facility and well done to the Offaly boys and girls.

We have to beat Dubs and hope Louth beat Offaly to get to the final.

Again Laois caught my eye - this time for the right reasons with a good win over Meath. Wexford hammering could end up being a positive thing.

The PRO

A few important changes to the Laois team from Saturday made all the difference. Bringing in Lillis, Paul Kingston and Dillon made a huge difference. Meath were pretty terrible though too.

Hound

Dubs were backboned by David Byrne, John Small, Fenton, Scully and Costello with the remainder being experimental lads.
All the work done in the first half, building up a 10+ point lead in no time and (the opposite of the last day) 5 of the starting forwards scored.
However, Louth were very poor in the first half. They made 12 changes at half-time, which made a huge difference and the second half was even. Louth's Ciaran Byrne as good as anyone in the 2nd half.

Shamrock Shore

It will be interesting to see who Dessie brings to Longford on Sat.

Looking forward to it.

Game is being streamed for €8 is anyone is interested.

I see Ross Munnelly is still playing with Laois at 39.  Have many players County outfield players played at that age? Fair play to him to keep committed.

Shamrock Shore

We were hopeless against Dubs C.

Hopeless

Win for Laois over Kildare tonight, went to penalties.
Laois vs Dublin in final on Sunday. Not many games bigger than an O'Byrne Cup Final....

Good result that for Laois with Kildare preparing for Division 1. Be good to see some of the other Leinster teams improving.

Think it's Saturday isn't it? It's live on TG4 in a double header with Armagh Vs Monaghan !

laoislad

You're correct it's Saturday.

Penalties looked to be some craic. Laois won 6-5, both teams took 10 penalties!

Final 3pm on Saturday in Dr Cullen Park, live on TG4

twohands!!!

Only seen the 2nd half but Laois made Dublin work hard for their win.

John Small straight red for an off-ball-strike just before half-time.

Still struggling to get a handle on where exactly Dublin are - league should tell a good bit more.

Laois possibly the happier of the two teams given their performance - especially when contrasted with the result of the Wexford game. - Lots of good effort and hard work by a good chunk of their players involved. If they bring performances like this to the league they could well be in the promotion race as opposed to the relegation battle.

laoislad

Ah yeah decent enough performance from Laois, happy enough with it. Would have liked to win though!
Sending off didn't harm Dublin in the slightest, they were always in control. Laois couldn't get their noses in front at all after drawing level a few times.
