GAA Discussion / Artificial Sun in Croke Park!!
December 29, 2006, 08:01:11 PM
Went on the tour of Croke Park today. 20 lids for the four of us. Guided tour of the a dressing room, premium level, corporate suite etc from a chirpy Dub 'on message'.

Some points to share:

1. Dressing room table has some serious damage to it from a few hurls. Big lump ate out of it as well. Tour guide said it was probably Brian Cody
2. Very funny seeing 5 bucket seats on their ownio installed on The Hill
3. Floodlights are the most powerful in the world. I am definitely going to Dublin v Tyrone game.
4. Restaurant in museum had only tay and coffee as grumpy auld chef went on the batter last night and pulled a sickie. Nobody had spare keys to release the crisps etc from the safe

The most amazing thing is shown on the picture below. Yep - for that all-over tan the sod had its own sunlamp to keep the grass growing all year round.

So - all in all, with the browsing in the Museum not really for the little uns but I could spend a week in there, well worth the time and effort.

Well done boys and girls in Croker and will someone get a new table made of marble or something.

Yes - Emmet Og are Killoe

Sean O'Shea played with Ballymahon, I think. Or was it Civil Service in Dublin. Or both maybe. Laureleye may correct me here.

I have all the Longford senior (since 1890 when it began) , intermediate (1966 it started) and minor (1936)  football winners as well as the senior hurling but I fall down on the losers.

I'll see is there some way of cutting and pasting cos I am too lazy to type them all in.

1. A decent run in the League to avoid Tommy Cooper Cup nonsense
2. A 1/3 of a point win over Westmeath in the Leinster
3. A humane culling of the Armagh/Tyrone representation on the board  ::)

Dervan is a wingnut and if he told me 1+1 was 2 I'd get me calculator out.

Maroon

Those domains were coralled by the Leinster council about 6 years ago. Nothing to do with anyone in Westmeath. The Longford website got the next generation address from the Leinster council:

http://www.longfordgaa.ie/

So - I'd scale back your score there a tad.

QuoteI would give it 1

How in God's name does it even merit 1?  :o

Have vouchers in the program for each game with some classa ticket number like, say LD 250307 1256 (meaning the purchaser bought a program at a Longford home game on 25 Mar 07 and he was number 1256)

Each county than gets 100 All Ireland football tickets that it can then draw out the numbers and offer the program holder the choice to buy 2 AI tickets. If an away supporter wins then too bad - that's the luck of the draw.

Or something like that. Idea probably would need fine tuning.

I think Longford's finest, Eugene Murtagh, led the way on this one.

6 month's ban 2 years ago for referee abuse.

He's back reffing alll the same now  ::)

GAA Discussion / Re: Important Dates In The Gaa.

Wrong there Sean3

Gaelic Sunday was held cos the RIC were introducing a licence system in that before a gaelic game could take place anywhere at any time formal permission had to be sought and a licence issued by the local RIC station.

Rightly (although I think the Church did not support the GAA here) the GAA said 'feck that' and ordered all GAA clubs to have a match on Gaelic Sunday in Aug 1918 without the licence.

The propsal was quietly dropped.  The rest is history

1971 - the 'Ban' on GAA members attending foreign games is lifted

For me it was minor. Won a rake of hurling schoolboy/U14/juvenile and minor hurling medals (easy enough in Longford) but hit the payload in 1984 with a minor football championship medal ( as last sub  :-\ )

Played one senior football game for my beloved Mostrim in 1984 agin Coyningham Rd Bus Garage who were in the town on the piss and were up for a challenge.

Also played on Nov 1 1984 when all GAA clubs in Ireland celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the GAA. (For the record Wolfe Tones (us) played Clonguish)

So - what was/is your peak of achievement?

I reckon on a scale on 1-10 I'm at 1!
