Just for the record it would seem we have only played Cork twice in the League in living memory.

100% record in Clones in the championship against Monaghan. Great win back in 2004 (ish) when it went to extra time.

Longford hammered Meath in a challenge game the other evening so that bodes well.

Statement issued by Longford senior team management last night.

"This statement is issued on behalf of the Longford  Senior Management Team namely Denis Connerton, Ciaran Fox, Enda Macken and Derek Ryan.

Our Management Team held a meeting on Wednesday 27th of April to reconsider our situation in regard to continuing in our role with the Longford Senior Football Team.

At our meeting we discussed the difficulties in preparing our team to compete in the Leinster Championship. Our preparation has been made seriously difficult due to the fixing of League Games involving County players on the following dates: March 16th ,17th ,19th and 20th, April 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th, 19th, 23rd, 26th, 29th and May 1st.

After a productive training camp abroad funded by the players we met  with the Fixtures Committee to voice our concerns regarding players' welfare and fatigue and pleaded that Round 5 of the Club Leagues in Longford  be postponed to aid our preparation for the first round match in Leinster. We stressed that we had already lost home venue due to Glennon Brothers'  Pearse Park being unable to accommodate the expected crowd for this match even though the stadium was able to facilitate a Division 1 fixture involving our neighbours Roscommon with a very large attendance.

We further stated that our record in the Leinster Championship has been poor and as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our National League Victory surely everything that is possible within our own county to enhance our young players' chances  of progressing should be done.  Our request for postponement was not only denied  but games were fixed over three separate days  spanning from April 26th to May 1st.

This is the fourth time that a round of League Games couldn't be completed in one day. This has hampered our preparation for the Championship as we have had to cancel numerous training sessions and at this stage we unfortunately feel that we are unlikely to win the first round  versus Offaly. Therefore we feel we are now preparing for the Qualifiers and we hope our preparation for this competition will receive  greater support .Our Elite Players deserve better.

We have to  ask  how other counties manage to have much greater free time  leading up to their respective provincial championships and we can't. This was never an issue in Longford before as previous management teams got ample time to prepare."

Well eff me. I hereby surrender to AZOffaly and his colleagues as there is no point even discussing the match as it's just this side of a walk-over.

I am in one here in Site Dublin. One of 6 tenors in a 30+ strong group of mixed sexes and ages. It's a great distraction and we were one of the choirs that were in the recent Centenary RTE production. (I can be seen Dad dancing at one stage  )

I think it's a wonderful way of de-stressing and if you've ere a note in your head you should seek out one in your locale. There are hundreds of them all over Ireland.

Dramatic headline for sure. The entire covered stand area has to be demolised and rebuilt. See below from The Longford Leader:

Longford GAA County Board are staring down the barrel of a crippling multi-million euro bill after an expert report has recommended the demolition, redesign and rebuilding of the covered stand areas at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

Following the emergence of structural subsidence issues at the venue during June of last year, Collins Boyd Engineers & Architects were commissioned to investigate the situation.

They conducted a series of examinations, the findings of which are published in a comprehensive report presented to delegates at last night's County Board meeting in Áras Uí Bhriain, and it recommends that the only commercially viable solution to deal with the issues identified is to demolish, redesign and rebuild the stand.

County Board secretary Peter O'Reilly outlined, "There was also the option of underpinning the stand and trying to get it pile-driven underneath to support the structure that is there but the most cost effective option is to demolish, design and rebuild."

Earlier this year, as a precautionary measure, a section of the stand – affecting approximately 600 seats - was initially cordoned off but as investigative work intensified, the entire stand area was sealed off and declared out of bounds.

Owing to the significantly reduced Pearse Park capacity, Longford had to forfeit home advantage for their Round 3A All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Kildare.

The 'original' foundations went down 2 meters. Due to the nature of the ground the foundations should have gone down 21 meters.

Another disaster following on from the money wasted on the so-called 'Centre of Excellence' and the county becoming the poster boy for a 'Second Tier' chanpionship after the roasting handed out by The Dubs.

Not having beaten the Dubs in the Leinster since 1970 (a game former Dub Gay O'Driscoll described as his lowest point on a pitch) and shipped a few beatings since (although 2006 was a close game) is there any point in getting excited about this?

Tadgh Kennelly too and there are too many Ciaran Whelan storys to recount but they all escaped censure.

My own recall is a Longford sub in a league match in mid-90s against Kildare, giving a lad a wee thump on the way to his position and then getting sent off straight away. Lasted about 20 seconds.

I see that at last night's Leinster Council meeting the notion that the Dubs would be asked to travel bogwards to either Tullamore or Longford was pooh-poohed.

Now there is a QF date with Offaly or Longford with the Dub hurlers playing Galway as the opening match in Croke Park on May 31 2015.

God forbid that the Council might lose a few bob in dragging the Boyiz in Blue out of the capital in May. Feck sake.

Anyone know if this went to a vote or was it an Executive decision?
