Well done to Borris on a great performance at the Feile. The Laois teams seem to have done well in general.

Trouble is who is going to firstly come up with the plan and who is going to implement it??

Part one is no problem. Any amount of lads could (and have) done that.
Based on the past the answer to part two is "Nobody".

What's the story with the senior hurling league?  I read today that Abbeyleix have appealed. What happened?

Next time year. Would it be an idea to play this comp earlier and have both finalists renetry into Sam prelim quarter finals and the winner the team holidays etc

I agree, lets be honest if they did proper tier 2 structure they should scrap the provincial championships imo. So have League early season and then have TC run off, like the Joe McD in hurling the winner gets promoted to AI series for next year but also go in to provisional quarter final for current year. Thats a huge carrot. It would work even better in football as the gap between top and bottom tier is not as wide as hurling.

One other point on this is that this could go the way of the Tommy Murphy where the interest just is not there, for example Offaly lost panel members before their game with Wexford. If getting to the final got them back into AI series this would not happen.

I'd say the opposite is more likely. In hurling, going forward it now looks very likely that the McDonagh Cup finalists will not be in the Liam McCarthy any more. They can't be seen to do the opposite in football.

Is there any indication as to whether William Maher is staying on or not?

Portarlington's minor hurling resuls are very impressive. Fair play to the people involved. And they seem to be doing OK at under 15 and under 13 too. It would be great if an adult club got going in that corner of the county rather than seeing the young lads either give it up or get siphoned off by the more traditional clubs.

Some great hurling people in Port doing a great job. Fair play to them.

On a worrying note, i see our U15s were beaten by Kildare at the weekend.

I read on another thread that laois u15s beat limerick at the weekend. 2 different squads? Was it the second team lost narrowly to kildare?

Possibly ... hopefully.

That Limerick result is a good one but what squad did Limerick send out against us.

[quoted

Tipp played only u16's against us,after 20 odd minutes, the scoreboard was putting up Tipp goals as points and at half time they turned off the scoreboard completely in Cashel, the scoreline was way worse than what was officially given

I heard that last week and genuinely couldn't believe it . Demoralising to hear .

So the 12-29 or whatever it was, was actually a lot more?? Holy Christ.

I went to one of the minor hurlers' games in O'MP, and they accepted cash off me...

I thought this u20 group was supposed to be quite good, no? Have they not underachieved a bit?

That's an awful regression for that group. Questions must be asked how this was allowed to happen. They were one of the best squads at the younger ages hammering the likes of Offaly and Westmeath and now they have lost to those two at minor and u20. Next year's team lost to Kildare at minor as well. Worrying for the future.

I see online where Laois GAA are looking to appoint a Head of Games Development. I heard today that Andrew Kavanagh might be coming back. This is a massive appointment and one that the County Board must get right.

I couldn't get to it but Christ that was an awful hammering for our minors. I know Galway are good but 30 points is a desperate beating.

That's simply not true. At least 4 of our forward line - O Carroll, Barry, Lowry and Kingston - are very well capable of playing at a high level. Only a few years ago, Derry was languishing in Division 4. Now they're beating Dublin. We also see the difference good management has made in Louth.

Having said that, of course, huge work is needed from the ground up. Maybe someone might go talking to Karl Lacey?

His relations in Laois might talk to him.

We could all probably name 13 of the starting team now. A couple of spots up for grabs

I've been at them all bar yesterday (including Walsh Cup).

A hard trier alright but limited. He might start.

I just offered my opinion, that's all.
