What is your idea of unionist (inc. orange and loyalist) tradition?
Do they actually have any?
Or is it being made up as we speak?

Its not really a culture in that it only exists to oppose Gaelic culture - we all know that if the north was suddenly fenianless these parades would cease, flegs would be nowhere to be seen, not a bowler hat nor stiff arse in sight.   How in the name of god can ye base your entire life and thinkings on a foreign skirmish over 300 yrs ago and call it culture

false principles based purely on hatred for Irishness

and thats why you'll not see a parade on Rathlin - the Puffins just don't give a f*ck.........now if they were fenian Puffins....well..

Have all ye Prods quit talking to your neighbours yet?  must be near that time for a harrumph or a growl instead of good morning

I know its a perennial question, but what do the intelligentsia on this board think of the annual bon fest that is the 11th of July?

only makes loyalist areas look and smell like shitholes, so its all good

Whats everyone's take on this?
Dunno if its just the south east of England but when you go out, fellas standing around swigging Blue WKD and smirnoff ice just aint appealing.
Especially as they think they are daddy cool.
Also think said drinks taste like pish but maybe its just me.

Wkd is just vile!
Smirnoff Ice isn't to bad - tastes like lemonade - but I don't know how anyone could drink it all night - I certainly wouldnt dream of ordering it in a pub.

However, if it was a choice between it and some of the shite they have in England I might choose it.

Sorry to disappoint you Fishbat. Don't watch any of the British soaps, don't follow soccer and never buy The Sun, The Mirror and such newspapers. Not because of the British thing, just that they are rubbish.

I like Doctor Who though, but it's Welsh I guess ;)

ah but ye thumb through the pages of "Zoo" no doubt?

i'm falirly sure theres some wee secret britishisms ye have but won't admit!

If it was only pish it would be ok - theres a strict time limit on these soups - none after 3 in the afternoon, and certainly not in the general view of friends.

I see this game has been confirmed for 7pm, 19th July. An all-ticket game in Drogheda

Where did you see this confirmed?

Hoganstand

Looks like an overnight stay somewhere en-route to Clones.

Hoganstand have it as Saturday 12th July - this can't be right can it?

Louth's eagerly-awaited SFC qualifier against Tyrone will be played in Drogheda on Saturday July 12 at 7.00pm.

http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=97436

The date ain't right.
The battle of the boyne site is less than 3miles from the pitch, so that would be an interesting date to have it  :D

Sure the way things are going politically, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had the game played on the 12th July instead, with Paisley throwing in the ball, and Martin Mc Guinness and Robinson refereeing a half a piece and 3 bus loads from Drumcree Church introduced to the crowd at half time with Nicky Brennan giving out commerative T shirts;) ;) :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

With "Seige (sic) of Drogheda 2008" medals to be dished out to the winners

Ah the "true supporter" snobbery

The majority of gulderers at games are grown men and women not teenagers, and well ye's know it - many of them are not even drunk

I'm fairly sure theres a brave few folk on here who have not left their pints or bottles back to the bar, instead they are left somewhere outside and kicked about the place - i've rarely saw young lads firing bottles about the place.

I've saw streets in a far worse state after feckin Santa parades - kiddies overdosing on sweets and coke is a bad combo for the clean up guys.

As for the fellas and girls that go down just for the party - thats their business, might not make a pile of sense to go that far to sit in the pub but a lot of folk are simply not interested in sports but go along to enjoy the day - don't know why this bothers people particularly the "true supporter" club who bleat on here relentlessly - there are some who are fanatics and those who are not, there are some who will sit on a pissing day freezing at a river bank staring at a float for hours after tramping miles with at best a 5% chance of catching anything to speak off and there are those who go on a summers day to fire a line out and catch a few rays and enjoy the peace.

There are people for whom football does not rate as highly as others, who will not be going to watch the county train, or to Killarney for a league game - it just simply doesn't mean that much to them.  Would ye's prefer championship games to be a few thousand strong at most, devoid of atmosphere where the most chit chat comes from the lads on the pitch.

the large majority of supporters fit into this area - summer supporters/families/kids/teenagers/the curious etc...maybe it is the burden of fanaticism by being "true gaels' that annoys these folk the most

folk who have had a drink and those who have not should display a tad more decorum and less of the nasty comments on the terraces and in the bars, we aren't mortal enemies, thats what pisses me off most, and keep Clones a bit of craic

How the fcuk is the US invasion of Iraq a war crime?????

The vary same way as Germany invading Poland in 1939 was.
You know.. sovereign country minding it's own business - until a big bully with large armed forces sends them in without invitation to murder the local soldiers and any civilians who happen to get in their path.

That is a scandalous comment, I know plenty of US soldiers that have served over in Iraq and your lazy, uneducated comment is ignorant in the extreme.

You make it sound like the yanks shoot iraqi's on a whim, nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that the yanks do their best to make sure that they dont shoot civilians.

Don't think he was saying that the US compares to the Nazi's.

Facts are this US administration/regime have handled things very badly - it doesn't really matter who pulls the triggers and for what - there are civilians being butched all day every day due to this pointless invasion - Iraq was chosen as the battleground - stupidly.

What is the US going to achieve by being there?  as soon as they pull out, the puppet party will be pulled out by the roots and it'll be back to square one.....and i don't have much optimism for Afghanistan either - these bucko's will keep pouring over those hills til doomsday.

As for Iran - Are they (US) really stupid enough to do what we think they are going to do - use Israel as the shit-stirrers, then come in acting as big brothers

QuoteIt never ceases to amaze me that people will bash the US ceaselessly yet never utter a word about the atrocities that were and are being committed by Husseins minnions

Yes Saddam killed 1000's of his opponents much like most dictators do arounbd the world.  George Bush has managed to kill most of a million Iraqis...so who is the worst?

Ah but sure thats only numbers not real people - bit like the carpet bombing of civilians in Vietnam.

Have they not copped on yet that they cannot possibly win in Iraq, neither will they secure Oil there either, unless of course they have 100,000 troops there permanently.

Can someone just not shoot Mugabe and his generals or send him a bucket of anthrax in the post.

I see Israel is cranking up the bitching about Iran too,,,, the pricks

This is the site lads. Nostalgia overload. Does anyone else get referred memories watching them? For instance, I associate the A-Team with a bath (Saturday evening), Battle of the Planets with Boiled Potatoes and Chops. (I think it was on a Thursday or Wednesday afternoon). etc etc.

Aye,  Dallas all i remember is a living room packed to the gills, bodies everywhere, rows over folk talking over the show - one of the few times the whole family was in the same room!

Anyone remember the show they made ye watch in primary school "Look and Read" - there was a story each week - usually about kids outdoing the baddies - but it had an orange thing with a head and arms that flew about with letters all over him - he was called "Wordy" -  entire class up to the dinner hall lined out on those long benches, couldn't feckin wait for it each week.
