Quote from: Capt Pat on May 26, 2024, 02:29:49 PMGalway down to 14 men against the Dubs. It has really changed the course of the game with Dublin coming back into it.

Plus they'll be against the wind in 2nd half.

A red card for me. Reckless when ball was gone.
Thought red was severe... yellow for me

You might be right. Me I am not sure about it. The thing about it is though Burke didn't have to make the hit. He deliberately laid the man out and left the ref with a decision to make. The ref didn't have the benefit of slow motion replays and after consulting with the linesman Burke was gone.

It cost Galway the game and possibly Henry his job
Not so sure it cost them the game - they had a strong Salthill wind  behind them in the first half.
And let's face it they've been sh*te all year. Were not going to be contenders one way or another

Galway have indeed been shíte this year, a team on the wane and needing fresh legs to carry the fight which was sadly lacking on Sunday, and in Wexford and in the game against a Kilkenny team shorn of a lot of it's scoring threat.

Burke had no need to do what he did, the ball was gone and whilst I think he did pull out of it a bit himself he can't be surprised that a red was shown considering the directive on head hits that referees are rightly enforcing except I might add the one on John Conlon in Thurles, which to my mind was worse, as Conlan had no chance to brace himself. Ref consults with the Linesman, yellow!

Burke's problem was that at normal speed, it looked bad. Slow it down in a replay however, and you'll see it was chest-to-chest at most, not head-high. Burke himself nearly came off as bad, had he the guile to go down like Whitely he might have gotten away with it.

Quote from: imtommygunn on May 27, 2024, 10:30:17 AMI would say he's burned a lot of bridges in kk and this is a blot on his cv. Dunno if he will ever manage kk.

That sounds rather harsh. E.g. I would take MOD back over Galway again in the future, regardless of yesterday, and I've a feeling it may happen too. I've said so often, Shefflin may not have realised that Galway were in (need of) more transition when he took over than he thought they were.

Galway weren't playing well all year, yet looked sharp enough in the early stages yesterday. I do think the sending off cost them the game because they looked like they would have built up a substantial lead by half-time otherwise.

Quote from: square_ball on May 06, 2024, 08:05:26 PMHit a couple of great free kicks. Doesn't take away from the fact that he is a real weak link for Galway.

Hasn't conceded a goal in a while though, actually quite good in that dept.

No-one who is upwardly mobile in football wants to manage Ireland Nil. We could be like Belgium (in a political sense, definitely not football) who had no government for some time and the civil service ran the country.

Pat Ryan under a bit of pressure this weekend

Can understand the level of criticism of the Manager but to call out two players who are just there because they are picked is a bit much.

Obviously no younger talent bursting down the door to take their place.

I am no fan of Cork either.

Is Harnedy in there also this year?

Cork are so inconsistent. What Cork will turn up?

No, no, no. You're only allowed say that about Galway. Other teams just face challenges of various severity.

Would it not have made more sense to give the top of table team home advantage or toss a coin for home advantage which would attract a bigger crowd for the final than to bring both to Castlebar?

Great! In a direct clash with Galway's away trip to Wexford if I'm correct.

Quote from: Manning18 on April 20, 2024, 06:39:32 PM"Get out of jail card" and daylight robbery that I keep seeing being mentioned everywhere suggests luck on Galway's side, not really having that. An absolutely dire performance yes. A great performance by Sligo, absolutely. Their conversion rate was superb

But everything seemed to go against Galway, from the point awarded to Sligo that was 4 foot wide, to some of the first half ref decisions and the 5 missed goal chances obviously. If even one of those chances goes in it's a very different game. Not that it means it's in anyway acceptable to be going into injury time a point behind a D3 side but it does explain a bit of how they got there

Agree with the above on O'Conghaile and McCabe. Like I get they're young but still it's completely inexcusable from management. O'Conghaile hasn't done a single positive thing since R1 of the league and McCabe couldn't even make the u20 side last year. Cunningham and o'Currain have done significantly more than either. You could play O'Flaherty in the forwards either who's in excellent form

Conroy very poor today also, gave away at least 3 passes resulting in a couple of Sligo scores. John Daly could be in major danger of being dropped. Very skillful on the ball and good at picking passes going forwards, but now very incapable of holding the HB line and keeping attacking lines on the outside. HB line in general too porous (as usual) today. This is the first and biggest problem to be addressed.

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on April 12, 2024, 11:00:01 PMAwful rubbish. He has no business being anywhere near the water on 11 it's as if he has never played the course before. Too many missed short putts and too many   brain farts. Will probably do the usual and end up with a couple of good rounds to finish in the top 5 after he has played himself out of contention. Defo needs a proper caddy to sort his head out.

Got a complete schooling from Scheffler on course management. That trip to see Butch in Vegas doesn't appear to have improved much.

Awesome a coach who can't even get Greece to the euros through the back door of dud teams, can't wait. Might as well stick with o'shea
We couldn't beat teams at our level under the previous regime. Poyet knows how to do that !
Losing on penalties ONCE doesn't mean the manager is bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZt6-NJYv6U
O'Shea needs more time anyway. He definitely has talent.

Very little, ochon. Ferguson starting to look more like a kid who had a streaky spell a few months ago than "maybe the best teenager in the world" as one over-excitable commentator described him at the time. Both our vaunted goalies are scarcely world-class either; after that? Very little.

Are you saying you'd rather he had ignored the opportunity to lock down no hard border so that he could sink the Tories?

Tories were approaching meltdown at the time and falling asunder. They could neither go backwards or forwards. A good chance there may have been another referendum even. As Napoleon said, never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake.
