I have seen Referees often use time when penalising rather than steps.

These lads are all young and shooting the breeze. The weight of expectation is minimal. Nobody expects. These expectations change as a player matures. It's still a huge journey for them.

Rode our luck - Kelleher kept us in it. Controlled the game in the 2nd half, helped by a goal against the run of play in the first half. Gapko, I though struggled, bar a decent run and shot near the end.
Konate for (a tired) Virgil made us solid.

Quote from: Cunny Funt on February 28, 2024, 09:51:17 PMLow quality match but a hard earned and deserved win in the end, created the best chances in game and eventually took one. Improvement from the league game in the City ground when lost and conceded two goals.

Quarter final exit looks most likely now after that draw and will do well to avoid a trimming speaking of a trimming it should be at least 2 or 3 goal margin victory for the blue half in the Manchester Derby on Sunday.

Liverpool are a mess with injuries at the moment. The Kids stuff will catch up. As bad as Utd are they are streets ahead of Southampton. Plus the game is a home game for Utd.

Quote from: RedHand88 on February 25, 2024, 06:52:03 PMCaicedos face at the end was EVERYTHING. What he must be thinking watching the club he turned down make a go at sweeping the board.

What to say about Kelleher? Greatest achievement of any Irish sportsperson this weekend, hands down.

Who or what else was in contention for this prestigious honour?

Well, I would give it to Adam Idah
Con all day long 😁

Great that Kelleher has stepped up. That's 4 games in a row where he's played well and made big saves. Arguably could have done better for the Luton goal where the ball went through him, but it was hit with quickly with a lot of pace, but main thing was it didn't impact him one iota. I expect he'll get a decent move in the summer

From brief investigations he is on €10k a week - until 25/26 . Adrian is on €60K - until 23/24.
The last month shows he needs a run of games to maintain a standard and raise his standard.
He is now 25 coming into the prime of his profession.

Quote from: RedHand88 on February 25, 2024, 05:51:16 PMImagine not supporting Liverpool.

It's a great club - the fans rowed in behind the team when they needed it.

That is one of the most emotional Trophy wins and it's only the League Cup,

Quote from: From the Bunker on February 24, 2024, 10:10:52 PMDublin used to target Mayo games back in the day when we were a threat. We took some wallopings in the League. We never beat them in that period in the League. Between the League and Championship it was a procession of beatings. They would have targeted this game. Not giving your main rivals an inch sets the tone for the rest of the year.

I expect that means that Dublin did not rate Monaghan then.

Unfortunately that is the correct assumption.

Perhaps the plan is to contain for 35 mins then a full press for first 20 or so of 2nd half to blitz the opponent. Worked well.

No mention of the ref letting Canavan have 10 steps before the goal?

How are defenders supposed to do anything when refs let players away with that?!
Can only assume you missed the bounce.

Would you think he took more than 4 steps after the bounce?

In fairness it was only about 6 steps, the same as any other forward in the country usually takes when bearing in on goal.

Good finish from Mayo.
Tyrone worthy winners.

Would not read to much into anything tonight.

Thank god that Penalty call meant f*** all in the scheme of things.

Quote from: trailer on February 24, 2024, 06:06:41 PMNow even Peter Canavan calling out the refs. Tyrone get zero 50:50 calls. And refs always punish Tyrone to the maximum

Peter's analysis was all about Tyrone. He's naturally biased and with Darragh playing he has extra vested interest. So him saying it's a free, penalty or foul holds little weight.

Fitzaurice going on about Tyrone have only scored once from play. Never mentioned that Mayo have only scored twice.

Quote from: Rossfan on February 24, 2024, 03:55:29 PMHow many of the smug annual All Ireland Final attendees would bother their rear ends coming in to watch such a game?
Used even 20k of the 82,300 ever get in before the end of the Minor Finals in the past?

It all depended on if their county was involved.

I don't see any other sport do double headers in the case of a Final. Especially when the main event is a sell-out!

Quote from: Blowitupref on February 24, 2024, 02:07:22 PMTalk at GAA Congress this morning about returning the Railway cup and playing it in Croke Park before the senior All-Ireland finals.

When the Railway cup was prevalent

- Championship was knockout - half the intercounty teams were out after one game.
- There was no Tailteann Cup
- County Club Championships were Knockout
- There was no Intermediate and Junior Club Provincial or AI Championship
- There was a hunger to see the top players represent your province.

To Make it work you need

- A defined window to free up players
- Buy in from the Top players
- Buy in from the public
- Buy in from a Top sponsor
- To market it as a top competition to win.

The reality is

- There is no hunger for such a competition
- Top players are over loaded with competitions
- There is no where on the calendar to fit it in
- There is no money to be made from this by the GAA

Good interview the Kneecap there. PK was marginally uncomfortable. Tubridy would never have had them on or if he did would be able to have that interview as open.
