Clontibret vs Latton in the Monaghan final on Sunday. It's Clontibret's first time back in final(apart from amalgamations) since the Ulster winning team in 2002.
Who did Clontibret amalgamate with? I'd have thought they would have been a big enough to field their own teams at underage?
We amalgamated with neighbours Cremartin(who had a good minor team themselves) for just one year, won the Monaghan championship in 2005.
We are big enough to field our own teams at underage(not big numbers but still enough), but that particular year for some reason there were quite a few amalgamations forming and this one happened too. We would have had a decent team as did Cremartin, but I doubt either would have won it on their own, clearly it was a decision made going all out to win the championship rather than one made due to necessity or lack of numbers.

Clontibret won the Monaghan championship tonight. What's the draw in Ulster like?
Draw is normally made by Chris Ward at a wee do in the Northern Bank in Belfast city centre in conjunction with Saint Pauls Belfast on the Monday night after the last of the County Minor Finals has been decided.
In 2009 the games were drawn out on October 19th.
Edit: The draw for this year's Competition will take place on Tuesday October 26th.
Ah right, grand, thought the draw might have been made seeing as the senior competition was. Was thinking alright that it's a good while away yet before the games will start anyway.

Aughadrumsee beat Belcoo in the Fermanagh final a couple of months ago.
Minor win a major boost for AughadrumseeAughadrumsee 1-11 Belcoo 1-07Aughadrumsee clinched a first ever minor title on Friday night as they overcame a Belcoo side seeking a third minor championship crown in a row at Brewster Park.
An excellent all round team performance took Aughadrumsee to the victory and manager Ciaran Carey explained that it is a very big achievement for the club.
"We've won minor titles when we have been joined with other clubs but this is the first on our own and it means a lot to us. It is the culmination of a lot of work with this particular group of players. Four years ago this team were playing U14 Division Three football but they have progressed up the ranks and last year was a big stepping stone. We reached the Division One league final so we knew that we weren't too far away," stated Carey.
He added: "We would have been disappointed that we did not finish in the top four in the league and then to have lost the Division Two final to Kinawley but the players have shown great character to come back from those setbacks and win the championship. I'm delighted for the players as they have put in so much effort."

A tough challenge during Aughadrumsee's win over Belcoo at Brewster Park on Friday night.
Aughadrumsee had the advantage of the breeze in the first half and they got off to a reasonable start with Eddie Courtney knocking over a free and John Joe Strain firing over another point from play to give them an early advantage.
Belcoo dangerman Johnny Feely got his side up and running with their first point of the contest but Aughadrumsee hit a hot streak as they accounted for the next four points.
Courtney, who was superb throughout, drilled over a line ball and a 45 while Strain also added to the tally. And it took a wonderful save from Belcoo goalkeeper Paddy Sweeney to deny Jarlath Durnien a goal, Sweeney pushing his effort over the bar as Aughadrumsee moved into a 0-06 to 0-01 lead.
Belcoo though responded with a good spell of their own around the 20 minute mark as Stephen Nolan landed a free while Philip Leonard notched two points from play to cut the deficit back to two points, 0-06 to 0-04.
However, Aughadrumsee were to finish the half the stronger. A long ball by Courtney was punched to the net by Strain and Stephen Flynn then fizzed a shot over the top to leave them six clear at the interval, 1-07 to 0-04.
Belcoo, however, were right back in contention at the start of the second half when Feely collected a long ball from Leonard and rocketed a shot into the roof of the net, and when the same player followed up with a point from a free in left only two between them.
Aughadrumsee though were always able to maintain that two point advantage and with Andy Toye and Aidan Flanagan mopping up a lot of ball at the back they managed to weather the storm. It was to be a hard fought second half but as the half progressed Courtney and Strain became more inflential with both registering points.
Nolan and Feely were among the points for Belcoo as they stayed in touch but they could get no closer than two points with Aughadrumsee always able to respond to Belcoo scores, Durnien again knocking over.
With five minutes remaining Sweeney kept Belcoo's hopes alive as he pulled off a terrific save from Flynn but a point from Strain was to be the insurance score for Aughadrumsee who held on for a memorable victory.

Monaghan Minor Football Championship Final
Minor Champions Again
Clontibret 0-19 Latton 0-06
Well done to the minor lads and their managers, Cathal and Mickey on bringing the Fergal O'Hanlon Cup for the Minor Championship back to Clontibret again.
It turned out to be somewhat easier than expected as the Latton challenge fizzled out in the second half but all the disappointments that this bunch of lads have had to endure since under 12 were exorcised in Ballybay on Sunday evening last as they made sure there was no way back for their gallant opponents.
This was a terrific all round team display littered with gems of individual excellence, including Eoin McGuigan's Man of the Match display on the 40, Conor Boyle's three first half points against the wind and the run of play, Ryan McGuigan's cameo at the end yielding three points after the disappointment of not being able to start with an injured arm, and Captain David Savage's inspiring leadership up front. A year to remember for these young players and we look forward to seeing many of them in action in higher grades as the year progresses.

Antrim Minor Football Championship Final
By Ed McGinley - at Casement Park
Lámh Dhearg 0-14 St John's 0-03
Lámh Dhearg captured their first Minor Football title since 1992, only the third in the Hannahstown club's history, on Friday evening by way of an 11-point victory over St John's. The result was never in doubt as the Lámhs took a four-point lead at the break before racing clear in the second half.
Joint manager Terry McCrudden was understandably delighted with the triumph but was quick to offer words of respect for the Johnnies and the challenge they posed. "We have been in four finals in our entire history so to win tonight I'm absolutely over the moon," said Terry who is in charge of the team along with Frankie Fitzsimmons. "I don't think we played well at all but St John's were always going to make it very difficult for us. They are a good team, with good coaches but I knew we would get there in the end. I was confident in our scoring and tackling ability."
McCrudden also outlined the long-term plan, which the minor management team has implemented in the hope of bringing senior success to the club. "Frankie (Fitzsimmons) and I got this team five years ago and all we did was concentrate on the basics. Our goal was to get them through to senior football," added Terry. "Winning U16 and minor titles is a by product. A good one at that but four or five of them are already playing senior so for Frankie and I that's success for us."
A sizeable crowd was in attendance at Casement Park for the long-awaited decider, which had fallen victim to a floodlight failure almost two weeks ago. But if it was thrills they were after then they should have made the short trip across to the fun fare, which illuminated the night sky, minutes away. This was a nervy encounter and lacked any real rhythm over the course of the hour's play.
Lámh Dhearg made their intentions clear seconds into the game when Darren Mervyn rampaged through the Johnnies defence and fired over the opening point. The next ten minutes of play were not quite as clever as the Lámhs posted three appalling wides before Declan Lynch stopped the rot with a composed point from distance. Even at this early stage it was apparent that St John's were struggling with the imposing physical threat of the Hannahstown pack. While efficient going forward they relentlessly hunted down St John's when they didn't have possession, making it extremely difficult for the Whiterock boys to clear their lines.
The Johnnies had the excellent Kylan Allsopp to thank as the goalkeeper produced a superb stop to prevent Gerard Slane from raising the green flag. Darren Mervyn split the posts with an eye-catching strike from long-range before the Johnnies registered their first point of the game courtesy of Jack Hannigan, who wriggled clear of two men and clinically stroked the ball over the bar. Man of the match Ryan Murray then got in on the action with his first point of the day while minutes later good movement off the ball helped James Lyndsey to record the final point of the half, giving Lámh Dhearg a four-point cushion.
Aaron McAufield lit up the re-start as the corner back showed his attacking compatriots exactly how it should be done with a sweet, swerving point on the run. A string of changes from both sides followed, which inevitably curtailed the flow of what was already a stuttering final. Murray then came into his own with a series of top drawer scores with Padraig McBride's free the only resistance St John's could engineer. Lámh Dhearg substitutes Matt McKiernan and Kevin Quinn added their names to the score-sheet while Andy Magowan's free on 52 minutes was the Johnnies third, and last, point of the evening.
Murray continued to shine but it was left to Quinn to complete the scoring to round off a handsome 11-point victory for the ecstatic Lámh Dhearg squad.

Rossa Minor Footballers Win Derry Championship
Magherafelt O'Donovan Rossa 3-08 Ballinderry Shamrocks 1-07
The Rossa Minors captured the All County A Minor Championship title on Saturday afternoon in an exciting match at Celtic Park. They defeated Ballinderry on a scoreline of 3-08 to 1-07. This was another historical win for the Rossas as we have waited 18 years to recapture a minor all county championship title. The Club are extremely proud of the players and management for their efforts and determination in winning the championship this season. The team will now compete in the Minor Ulster Club Championship in November. The draw for this stage has yet to take place.
Match Report from Seamus Mullan:
Blistering Finish
It's a well used sporting cliché that goals win games and that was very definitely true of this match as Rossas plundered three in the final quarter to take complete control of the match on the scoreboard.
Again, while their forwards did the business on the scoreboard their defence played their part with a battling performance that kept Ballinderry at bay without conceding too many frees in the scoring zone. Rossas scored 1-07 from placed balls, Shamrocks 0-03, a sure indicator of the difference between the respective defences in the tackles. Simply put Ballinderry conceded too many frees in the scoring zone and were duly punished.
Magherafelt trailed 1-07 to 0-08 with twelve minutes to go but Rossas then scored goals in the 48th, in the 51st from a penalty and in the 60th for a sensational eight point victory.
The former Lavey All Ireland club championship medallist suggested that the turning point came just before the first goal.
He told me, "I thought that a tackle on the side line just before Blaine Atchison's goal was the turning point. Ballinderry were in possession but Atchison put in a strong tackle to turn over the ball and he was then in the right place shortly afterwards to palm the ball to the net to give us the lead."
From that point onwards there was only one winner, Rossas winning a penalty ten minutes from time for a late tackle on Conor Kearns, with Christopher Spiers netting from the penalty spot. They added a third in the last minute for a deserved victory and their first minor title in eighteen years.
Incredible Start
Aaron Devlin was fouled at the throw in and he played the free quickly to Ryan Bell who put Harry Wilkinson through on goal and he made no mistake with fifteen seconds on the stopwatch.
On the kick out Darren Lawn was fouled and Tony Martin found Ryan Bell from the free and he sent the ball soaring high over the bar for 1-01 to no score with seventy seconds showing.
Three minutes later Enda McLaughlin picked off a loose pass ball from Aaron Devlin, the ball then carried forward by Anton McElhone and Conor Kearns. The latter was fouled and opened Rossas' account from the free.
McElhone then took a pass from McLaughlin and set up Stephen Lagan for a well-taken point on eight minutes. Magherafelt then created a goaling chance in the 10th minute when Conor Kearns
fisted the ball to Fergal Duffin in space in front of goal but he delayed his shot and was then forced to shoot hurriedly wide.
Daniel McKinless fouled Kearns a minute later and Christopher Spiers cut the lead to the minimum, 1-01 to 0-03. Another wondrous catch from Devlin in the middle of the field led to a scoring chance for Fintan Bell but he pulled his shot wide.
Midway through the half Ryan Ferris was booked for a late challenge on Daniel McKinless and Tony Martin pointed the free to end Ballinderry's thirteen minute barren spell. Spiers then won a free and pointed for 1-02 to 0-04.
Ten minutes from half time the sides were all square when Kearns landed a free when Gareth McKinless fouled Spiers. Magherafelt were in the ascendancy at this stage and it was no surprise that they took the lead eight minutes from half time. Lee Martin was penalised for touching the ball on the ground, Gareth McKinless picking up a yellow card for dissent. Spiers was on target from the free, Rossas in front for the first time.
Darren Lawn conceded a free and Ryan Ferris found Spiers who put Kearns through but he sliced the ball wide of the post.
Three minutes from half time Fergal Duffin was fouled and Spiers extended the Rossas lead to 0-07 to 1-02. However in the closing minutes of the half Paul O'Kane was penalised for touching the ball on the ground and Ryan Bell pointed the free.
The full forward repeated the scoring act in added time from another free when Ferris fouled Devlin, the sides now all square at 0-07 to 1-04 when the half time whistle sounded.
There was bit of tit for tat gamesmanship from both sides just before the start of the second half. Rossas came out onto the pitch for the second half, Ballinderry a bit tardy in returning to the fray. Rossas then decided to return to the dressing room and met Shamrocks at they were coming out onto the pitch! Rossas continued on their way to the dressing room, waited a couple of minutes and then came back out to start the game!
Still Ballinderry were first to make their point on the pitch within forty five seconds of the throw in, Ryan bell converting a free when Declan Bell was fouled. They added a second after four minutes through Fintan Bell after good work from Daniel McKinless and Harry Wilkinson.
Rossas got into their scoring stride in the 35th minute when Spiers pointed a free following a foul on Phillip McCusker but that proved the last score for ten minutes after Fergal Duffin, Phillip McCusker and Christopher Spiers from a '45' had Magherafelt wides.
Midway through the half Fintan Bell took a pass from Daniel McKinless and played the ball to the goalmouth where it broke to Lee Martin and he hooked it cleverly over the bar for a two point lead. That proved to be Ballinderry's last score as Rossas took control of the game and converted their dominance into scores.
Three Goal Blast
Gareth McKinless was booked for a foul on Niall Higgins, as was Tony Martin for a challenge on substitute Phillip McCusker. The latter drilled the ball high across the goalmouth from the free, the unmarked Blaine Atchison timing his run and his jump to perfection to palm the dropping ball back across the keeper to the net in the 47th minute.
While Christopher Spiers was waiting to take a free on the '45' metre line the referee was alerted to a bit of a scuffle in back play between Ballinderry's Matt Quinn and Magherafelt's Blaine Atchison and he booked both players. From the free the ball reached Spiers who sent it well wide.
Ten minutes from time Conor Kearns soloed through the heart of the Ballinderry defence but Canice Rocks pulled him down from behind. The referee blew for a free, then booked Rocks and pointed to the penalty spot. Spiers blasted the ball to the roof of the net to put four points between the sides.
Another barren scoring spell followed before Stephen Lagan buried the ball in the back of the net in the first minute of added time and Phillip McCusker lofted the ball over the bar a minute later to confirm Magherafelt's first minor title for eighteen years.
The Magherafelt scorers were Christopher Spiers 1-05, 0-05 frees, 1-00 pen, Stephen Lagan 1-01, Blaine Atchison 1-00, Conor Kearns 0-02 frees
The Ballinderry scorers were Ryan Bell 0-04, 0-03 frees, Harry Wilkinson 1-00, Stephen McGuckin, Fintan Bell and Lee Martin 0-01 each
Magherafelt
Conor McLarnon; Paul O'Kane, Peter Quinn, Paudie Kielt; Niall Higgins, Ryan Ferris, Michael Kerr; Fergal Duffin, Peter McErlean; Anton McElhone, Stephen McGuckin, Conor Kearns; Enda McLaughlin, Stephen Lagan, Christopher Spiers

St Josephs snatch draw in Minor Final

Cavan Gaels 2-12 St Joseph's 2-12
Breffni Park witnessed one of the most dramatic finishes to a minor final in living memory when St Joseph's came from eight points down with three minutes of normal time remaining to snatch a draw against Cavan Gaels in this riveting Division One minor final.
An excellent goal from sub Vincent Coyle with time almost up made it 2-12 to 0-10 in favour of Cavan Gaels and looked to have killed off the contest but St Joe's had other ideas.
A good point from Cian Sheridan had the look of a consolation score all over it but even when a long punt from his midfield colleague Cein Sweeney fortuitously found its way to the net moments later, the complexion of the match hadn't changed much.
Cue another point, this time from Brian Ellis, to reduce the deficit to a goal with time up. The Killeshandra-Arva-Drumlane crew's only hope was to win the next kick-out and somehow engineer a goal which was, amazingly, what they did. Sweeney grabbed the ball at centre-field and ti went through a number of hands before reaching wing-forward Gary Tubman, who planted an unstoppable finish to the top corner of Morgan Young's net.
A draw in the end was a fair result after what was a barnstormer of a contest.
In perfect playing conditions, St Joe's started the brighter. They led by 0-3 to 0-1 after nine minutes following points from Conor Higgins (free), Aaron Brady and a sweet solo effort from Sweeney.
An excellent point from eye-catching wing-back Jonathan McCabe extended their lead to three with a dozen minutes played but the Gaels replied with a sweet 45 from Cian Byrne, who was arguably the most impressive attacker on show over the 60 minutes.
A point for Tubman - who has had a busy season and will line out in the Intermediate final for Drumlane on Sunday week - made it 0-5 to 0-2 but points from Pauric Sexton, county minor midfielder Paul Graham and Ryan Johnston levelled it up with 17 minutes played.
The Gaels, as usual, were well-drilled and displayed plenty of confidence; St Joe's, for their part, were stronger in many positions and played some exceptional football but seemed to panic and lose their way for long spells.
A good point from the pacy Sexton was cancelled out by two from Kevin Bouchier (one free after a foul on Ellis) in the final two minutes of the half to leave St Joe's ahead by the odd point in 13 at the break.
A super point from Tubman, who poked over after a good save from Young, opened the second half scoring and a 45-metre free from Bouchier - who showed glimpses of staggering ability at times - made it 0-9 to 0-6 before Byrne curled in a good point in reply.
St Joseph's were creating the vast majority of the chances at this stage but over-elaboration and poor shooting allowed the Gaels to slip off the hook. Bouchier saw an effort on goal glide inches wide of the post in the 41st minute before Paul O'Connor combined with impressive sub Stephen Murray to set up Byrne for a good point seconds later.
A well-struck Coyle free levelled matters in the 44th minute and when Murray set up Sexton moments later for the lead score, the feeling was that St Joseph's had missed the boat.
Bouchier tied it at 0-10 apiece but Cavan Gaels began to move through the gears and broke through for their first goal soon after when two defenders collided going for the same ball, allowing O'Connor the chance to bury it - the county minor full-forward duly obliged.
Bouchier could and should have had another goal a minute later when he did everything right, throwing a defender off with an outrageous dummy solo in the square before missing the target.
The Gaels took heart from this and drove on, Andrew Graham tapping over to make it 1-11 to 0-10. Another Byrne point followed as a sense of inevitability hung over proceedings and when Coyle ghosted in and buried a superb goal in the dying moments, the Cavan Gaels supporters could have been forgiven for thinking this one was done and dusted.
St Joe's never gave up however and it was they, and not the league champions, who will carry the momentum into what looks an intriguing replay next Sunday (curtain-raiser to the JFC final).
If it's half as exciting as this clash - which was very well handled by ref Kieran McCarville - it will be a classic.

St Joseph's:
On Sunday last St Joseph's Minor Team travelled to Breffni Park for the replay of the Cavan Minor Football Championship Final with Cavan Gaels. Unfortunately St Joseph's had a player sent off early in the game and they eventually tired as the Gaels took over in the last 10 minutes when they took the lead. The final score of Cavan Gaels 2- 13 St Joseph's 1-06 did not do justice to a gallant St Joseph's team who fought all the way to the final whistle.
Down Minor Championship Final
Kilcoo 1-12 Rostrevor 1-06
Rostrevor started the game at a blistering pace getting the first point of the match and seemed to be in fair control for the first 10mins or so. They were desperately unlucky when hitting the crossbar, the Kilcoo keeper was too committed to the ball and the Rostrevor forward made a delightful chip over him to jus hit the crossbar, which would have put them 4up and in firm control.
Then the turning point, Kilcoo half forward Ollie McClean got the line for kicking his marker after a bit of handbags between the two, the Rostrevor man possibly lucky to get away with nothing at all.
After this how ever Kilcoo got the kickstart they needed and lorded the rest of the half racking up 1-8 and cruising at half time by 10points.
The second half was played at a great pace and Caolan Mooney had a great half of football, a number of mazy runs and chipping in with the scores, the Rostrevor man picked back the scoring single handily it seemed. Rostrevor hit the woodwork twice, once through a penalty and one through open play, this I felt was the undoing of them. Rostrevor had a man sent off for a second bookable offence and that steadied Kilcoos ship.
At the end of the day, Rostrevor were desperately unlucky with their goal opportunities and in hindsight maybe should took the points more often instead of going to the net in almost every attack. Their player of the match was by far Caolan Mooney
Kilcoo had impressive performances all over the pitch, namely the two Johnson brothers shining. Ryan worked like a Trojan and was the playmaker for Kilcoo, while Jerome plucked the scores of the Magpies.
Kilcoo were worth their salt in this final and are worthy back to back champions-all the best in Ulster!
Armagh Minor Football Championship Final
Super Shane's Claim First Title
Shane O'Neill's 0-12 Tír na nÓg 1-06
A super second half performance from Shane O'Neill's enabled them capture their first Minor title at the expense of Tír na nÓg, Portadown 0-12 to 1-06. Wind assisted Shanes trailed at the short whistle 1-3 to 0-4 but when forced to play football into the element the Camlough boys were a different outfit as they stepped up a few gears out scored their opponents 8 to 3 to run out deserving winners.
Nerves played a big part in a very scrappy opening quarter which yielded 3 scores. Full-forward Declan McDonald opened the scoring on 5 minutes but Mark Davidson levelled for Tír na nÓg. Daniel Monaghan regained the lead for Shanes with James Cullen through a converted free restoring parity. Shane's goalkeeper John Sheridan pulled off a great save to deny Michael Corrigan a goal
Three minutes to half time the Portadown side hit the front with Gerard Bailey pointing followed by a goal. Davidson parted the ball to Cullen who calmly sidefooted to the net 1-3 to 0-2 with the game in injury time. Crucially two converted frees from Monaghan and Kristian Magill before the break cut the deficit to 2 points 1-3 to 0-4.
Adopting a different approach allowing their half back trio Ryan Evans, Damien Doyle and Gavin Kane to press forward at every opportunity and interval substitute Conor McKinley making a telling contribution in ball winning terms in attack, Shane's drew level. Points from Magill and a free by Monaghan left it all level some 8 minutes into the second half. Cullen with a terrific point from play edged the North Armagh team back in front for what was to be the last time. On 41 minutes a foul on the raiding Doyle enabled Magill to level matters 0-7 to 1-4. Fittingly the best flowing move of the match involving a half dozen players set up Monaghan for the lead point and Shanes never looked back.
Points from, Monaghan, Magill (free) and Doyle followed as Shane's piled on the pressure with 10 minutes left on the clock. Previously off colour from placed ball, Davidson rattled over a brace to cut the deficit in half 1-6 to 0-11 and then returned to type, by missing a third in a row, which would have left us with a very interesting last 5 minutes. But there was to be no denying Shanes their hour of history making as corner forward Emmett Murtagh knocked over the last point of the match to give Shanes a three point winning margin.

A milestone first minor title is testimony to the marvellous progress being made at underage level as well as Senior. Up through the ranks this Shane's panel have tasted success and it is great credit to all involved to be able to continue that success to minor level. A league title and Promotion to Division Two for the Seniors and a Minor championship title also in the trophy cabinet in the one year is a great boost to one of the most enterprising clubs in the county.

It's quite clear to me that the stage was set up to incorporate the flag in the backround and the cameraman is deliberately kneeling down in order to include it in his shot. Dissapointing imo.

Omagh Secure Minor Championship
October 25, 2010
Omagh 4-8 Cookstown 0-12
Reigning Ulster minor champions Omagh ensured that they will be back defending their title in the forthcoming tournament at the St.Pauls Club in Belfast when they retained their Tyrone crown at the expense of Cookstown in the final at Donaghmore on Saturday afternoon.
Omagh had defender Ciaran McLaughlin sent off in the closing stages of the first half but still led 1-4 to 0-5 at the break with Rory McBride getting their goal, Danny McDermott and Conan Grugan among the points for their respective sides. On the restart points from Barry Potter and Leigh McCracken levelled matters but then Omagh turned the game on its head in a three minute period.
All Ireland minor winner Ronan O'Neill scored a superb goal before supplying the pass for Ruairi Bradley to find the net. O'Neill then provided the assist for Tyrone team mate Conor Clarke to score their fourth goal to put the issue beyond doubt as the St.Endas hit 3-4 without reply. Defender Niall Doyle and substitute Eoin Coyle had late Cookstown points but it was a case of too little too late.
On behalf of St Paul's I would like to speak about the draw location. The rotunda in city hall is surrounded by flags and emblems and we believe that it's amazing that a club tournament that is established now as the Premier Ulster Minor Club Competition is having its draw in Belfast City hall and that all the clubs from all over the 9 counties of Ulster were made to feel so welcome. It was another high point in the tournaments 29 history.

St Pauls type weather has arrived just in time for the Tournament. All kinds of heat retaining clothes will be getting dug out with O'Neill giving his Colbacchi collection a raking through.
The new Quarter Final double headers on the 5th and 12th of December could well torun out to be weather endurance tests with this year's Craobh being compressed from eight match days down to six. Expect St Pauls will have extra cauldrons of soup available on those days.

Sunday 28th November - Ulster Minor Championship
Our excellent minor team starts its Ulster Minor Championship campaign this Sunday against St Endas Omagh, the Tyrone champions. The throw in is at 1.30 at St Pauls complex Shaws Road. Having won 2 All county under 16 championships in recent times and this years minor championship and league, we can approach this difficult tie with confidence. Lets turn out in big numbers to cheer on the lads and ensure this tie feels like a 'home' tie for the lads.
Omagh will be missing the best minor in ireland ronan o neill, this will surely give the antrim champions an confidence boost, although this particular omagh minor team has won everything in youth football, most winning two championship medals at each age group this experience of winning big games should edge them over the finishing line by. A couple of points.
Tomorrow's game is still on, according to this new video website - http://jeromequinnmedia.com (http://jeromequinnmedia.com)

Sunday's opening match goes ahead, as things stand on Saturday afternoon. More snow is forecast so clearly the fixture between holders Omagh St Enda's and Aughadrumsee is in doubt, but St Paul's will have club helpers out first thing in the morning to clear the snow. Throw-in is 1.30pm and you can keep right up-to-date here.

I think it was Declan McNicholl in the Glenullin team list, not Dermot, though he must have been around there somewhere. I copied the team list out of the Irish News report from the day.

Kilcoo Owen Roes(Down) 1-14 Clontibret O'Neills(Monaghan) 1-08
COUNTY Minor Football champions Kilcoo produced an exciting first half to see off the challenge from the Monaghan champions in this Ulster Minor Football Tournament Quarter Final in scoreboardless O'Donovan Rossa Park on Sunday afternoon.
In a game of high class football, Kilcoo produced such a scintillating display of pace, team work and scoring power during the opening 30 minutes that the large crowd thought the game was over at Half Time.
hardstation didn't arrive at the game until ten minutes into the first Half and clutching a pastie bap and a bottle of juice at that.
But Clontibret re-grouped, settled into their normal strong game and tackled and harried the opposition, who found the going tough in that second period.
A penalty goal 10 minutes into the second half by Clontibret's Eoin McGuigan allied to the accuracy from frees by Ryan McGuigan gave Clontibret a fighting chance, but they were really never able to overcome that first Half deficit.
The Kilcoo defence, manned by Darragh O'Hanlon, James McLaughlin and Daithi O'Hanlon impressed throughout, especially in the second half when Clontibret got on top.
James McClean and Nathan Smyth dominated midfield in the opening period but found Conor Boyle and David Savage quite a strong pair in the second period.
The Kilcoo attack moved the ball with pace and accuracy, with Jerome Johnston the star player on view, assisted by Cillian Laverty and Ryan Mussen. Clontibret's second half revival saw defenders Liam Savage, David Duffy and Brian Greenan give the opposition few chances but overall the attack relied on the accuracy from frees by Ryan McGuigan and Fergal O'Dowd and Eoin McGuigan.
Kilcoo opened in whirlwind fashion, moving the ball with speed and accuracy. They led by 0-7 to no score at the end of the first quarter with points flowing from Jerome Johnston (3), Nathan Smyth (2) and Cillian Laverty and Martin Devlin one each. Apart from a Jerome Johnston free, all the scores came from play.
Clontibret's first score came after 17 minutes from a free by Ryan McGuigan Conor Boyle and Jerome Johnston exchanged points before Kilcoo produced the score of the game when Johnston, Cillian Laverty and Martin Devlin combined to put Oliver McClean through for a goal.
Points were exchanged late in the half as Kilcoo led by 1-10 to 0-3 at Half Time.
Clontibret emerged for the second period a rejuvenated side. They took the game to their opponents and with Conor Boyle and David Savage dominating midfield they had points from Liam Savage and a free by Ryan McGuigan.
But Kilcoo, in the space of two minutes, replied with two points from Ryan Mussen to maintain their advantage. With 10 minutes gone, Clontibret got a lifeline when Eoin McGuigan goaled from a penalty and two pointed frees by Ryan McGuigan saw them in control.
But Kilcoo responded with a Jerome Johnston free with 10 minutes remaining. In an exciting finish Ryan McGuigan and Johnston exchanged points but despite strong pressure the Kilcoo defence held out for a deserved team victory.
Kilcoo - N. Kane, D Branagan, Darragh O'Hanlon, L Devlin, Daithi O'Hanlon, J McLaughlin, A Morgan, J McClean, N Smyth (0-2), O McClean (1-0), J Johnston (0-7), R Mussen (0-2) R Devlin C, Laverty (0-1), M Devlin (0-2).

Ulster Minor Championship
Clontibret 1-08 Kilcoo 1-14
Our minors were disappointingly put out of the Ulster campaign in the first round at the hands of Kilcoo from Down. The first half was all one way traffic for the Down men which left us with a mountain to climb at half time. The boys rallied and made a game of it in the second half but the gap was too wide and it finished up with 6 points separating the sides. Well done to the boys and their management team of Mickey and Cathal who have done sterling work with this team all the way up, culminating in the winning of the premier award at underage level earlier in the year.

Shock defeat for Tyrone title holders
Lámh Dhearg(Antrim) 2-07 Omagh(Tyrone) 1-05
Antrim champions Lámh Dhearg sparked a shock by knocking holders Omagh out of the Ulster Minor Football Championship at Shaw's Road, Belfast.
The Tyrone title holders never got going against a hard-working Belfast outfit, who battled for every ball, as if their lives depended on it.
And the Hannahstown side fully deserved the five points win that set up a first round clash with Aghadrumsee of Fermanagh.
The absence of the injured Ronan O'Neill was a huge blow to the St Enda's, who sorely missed their attacking talisman and always struggled for scores.
Omagh did open the scoring in the third minute when Stephen Murray finished with precision, following a surging run from midfielder Conor Clarke.
But they managed to add just one further point in the opening half, repeatedly closed down by a hungry Lamh Dhearg side, whose work rate was quite staggering.
Mark McGarry and Carl Maxwell knocked over points, and in the 14th minute, a defensive lapse allowed Mark Jordan to send Gerald Slane in for a goal.
Traded scores
Jordan added a point, and late in the first half Cormac O'Neill and Jordan traded scores.
Lamh Dhearg led by 1-4 to 0-2 at the interval, but Omagh got themselves back in contention when Conan Grugan netted a penalty two minutes into the second half.
They failed to build on that boost, however, and their opponents responded with a second goal, Jordan finishing from close range after his initial effort had been saved by Ryan Clarke.
Two Ryan Murray points opened up a seven points gap at the beginning of the final quarter, and the St Enda's were in deep trouble.
They did manage to break down a stubborn Dhearg defence for O'Neill and Grugan to slot scores, but their attempts to grab an all-important goal were thwarted, Tony McCann going closest, when his shot was blocked down.
In the end, it was the Antrim champions who made it through, and Omagh were left to reflect on what might have been.
Lámh Dhearg scorers: Mark Jordan 1-2, Gerard Slane 1-0, Ryan Murray, Mark McGarry 0-2 each, Carl Maxwell 0-1.
Omagh scorers: Conan Grugan 1-1 (1-0 pen, 0-1 free), Cormac O'Neill 0-2 (1 free), Stephen Murray, Piaras McElduff 0-1 each.
Lámh Dhearg: Gerard McKeown, Conor McIlvenny, Aaron McAulfield, Christopher Monaghan, Mark McGarry, Declan Stranney, Michael Hynes, Declan Lynch, Stephen Tully, James Lindsay, Gerard Slane, Mark Jordan, Ryan Murray, Matthew McKernan, Carl Maxwell.
Subs: Kevin Quinn for Maxwell, Darren Mervyan for McKernan.
Omagh: Ryan Clarke, Nigel Brannigan, Eoghan McElduff, James Gallagher, Gregory Murray, Conan Grugan, Ciaran McLaughlin, Ruairi Bradley, Conor Clarke, Cormac Hannigan, Eamon McMahon, Tony McCann, Stephen Murray, Cormac O'Neill, Ciaran Canavan.
Subs: Rory McBride for Canavan, Piaras McElduff for McMahon.
Referee: Martin McErlane (Derry).

FOOTPATH FURY IN MAGHERAFELT
THE state of the pavements in Magherafelt owing to the atrocious Wintry weather conditions is causing anger among residents and shop owners alike.
Frost, black ice and snow up to four inches deep, is layered thick on every footpath in the town, making conditions for pedestrians treacherous and impossible.

Lamhs should win this Competition, knocking up big scores. Fair play
I recall reading back on this thread that Magherafelt looked a serious outfit so wouldn't be so sure yet...
Be great to see an antrim team win it,if they did, for a change though.
Our minors actually ran Tyrone a lot closer than most this year so maybe we weren't that bad...
Four good teams in the Semi-finals. Kilcar were most impressive in the second-half, though this cracking goal was in the first-half..

Yeah I know. Patrick McBrearty.
Going by those clip from Jerome, LD look a serious outfit. They'd pass for a senior side in terms of their fielding, passing and shooting. Very impressive. Kilcar/LD should be a clinker.

Great to see an Antrim team in the final. Probably only the second time. Even that St Galls minor team the other year with the likes of CJ on it couldn't get near a final.

Cheeky ****.
My 2005 team with CJ lost in a semi-final to eventual champions Errigal Ciaran by three points, having led by two with 20 minutes to go. That's pretty close. We beat Ballinascreen (Where I blocked and cleared a goalbound shot on the line SS!) and I'm trying to think if we beat anyone in the preliminary round or if that was the U17 equivalent down in Dromore in honour of Paul McGirr.
CJ's 2006 team hockeyed Monaghan Harps in the quarter before being hockeyed themselves in the semis by Cavan Gaels, who had you man Martin Dunne playing.
My bro's team in 2001 beat Crossmaglen before losing narrowly to eventual champions Clontibret.
The time has come....
It has been a long long wait but the historic occasion of an Ulster Minor Club championship is now upon us.
The club is calling us on all Rossa supporters (old and new) to make their way to St Paul's G.A.C, Shaw's Road – Belfast this coming Saturday to support our lads against Lámh Dhearg at 1.30pm.
Last one leaving – Turn out the lights!
Good luck LD tomorrow.
There were better minor teams in St Galls before CJ's team. Karl stewarts year was a far better team without a doubt. On Lamhs, seen them twice this year, quality team and should win.
Haven't seen them but lamhs have good players in the key positions. They tend maybe to over play but have a real goal threat when on the ball.
Hannahstown is on a very high hill
But there's a cup they'll want to fill
Does Bukey still play?
Agin the Derry boys hey
The last line is not decided on, still.
When is this final? might go. hard to watch others!

Magherafelt play the strangest system that I ever did see
They have 20 men behind the ball and the 'keeper makes tea
They hoof the fecker up the pitch and the whole lot break free
Wee Anton picks up the ball, looks up and says "Fcuk me!"
For 20 dozen Derry men are lined up in front of goal
Wee Anton sells a dummy and the defence are on their hole
He bangs it in the square and it's punched to the net with glee
Then they all head back to the 'keeper and drink the buckin tea.
They are poetry in motion.
Out from what I hear. Took a knock and has a problem with the stomach.
M'felt missing their best player Ferris and Anton out. Will be tough for them to win now.
Making of a crackin game. Def the two best teams in the competition - both confident of winning it from the start. And if they told you the truth both expect to be back here again next year! Lamhs well be hot favourites to win Antrim again, and Magherafelt with their all-ireland feile a section winning team of 2008.
Bad frost last night. Will it still be on?

Tough competition to win and for Lamhs a great boost for the future. they need to make sure they bring this team and next years players through to compete at senior level
Just had a quick look over the last ten winners and I am open to correction but I think 7 of those clubs competed in their respective SFC finals either in 2009/10.

What was it? Where u at game?
Delighted for them. It's a fantastic tournament to win and far many of them it will be the crowning moment of their GAA careers. They deserve it.
The rate the fog was coming in, the officals will have been glad that the didnt need extra time. Was the greatest performance by White the referee. Made some very odd calls. Something seemed to happen during the presentation, with lots of finger pointing from the Magherafelt crowd. Didnt hear the chant Dennis, had this something to do with it?
Well done LD - first Antrim winners of the competition for 25 years. Further proof that the Saffron star is still on the rise! A nail biter of a final which was always going to the wire. Ferris and Mc Elhone huge misses for ODR and maybe this factor more than any tipped the balance. Huge crowd - some money spinner for St Pauls.
Highlights from today's Final, this is the first four points and a great save which was very important. The rest will follow on the same website link.

LD did brilliantly--great boost for our county. A great feature of their play was their support play--always seem to give the ball to the right man, not run into blind alleys. Delighted for them
What are you talking about? is that the reason behind our success? You're on to a winner there

LD did brilliantly--great boost for our county. A great feature of their play was their support play--always seem to give the ball to the right man, not run into blind alleys. Delighted for them
Yawn.

Lovely chant by LD players, classy.
What was it? Where u at game?
Along the lines of "send those f**kers home"
I don't agree with those posters who feel this is a major boost for Antrim football. What it is, is a major boost for expanding your catchment area to stretch from Lough (Neagh) to shining (Belfast) Lough; a major boost for the practice of raiding smaller clubs for their finer talents. How many of the LD that played on Saturday started their footballing careers at other clubs?
It is particularly unedifying to see boys being targeted at school and being offered incentives to transfer. Apparently the going rate is a Santa hat, a Youth Sport coat and a crate of Ballygowan water. It was wrong when his mentor from St. Gall's was at it - it's still wrong now.
If LD do go on to make a Senior team backboned by this minor team, they'll be a good side and there may well be possible championshipship to be won as the current St. Gall's team weakens and no-one else seems to be stepping up to the plate.
Congratulations to Lamh Dhearg.

Its wrong if this happens, but what incentives are you talking about? Our club has no money for an incentive no jobs available behind bar either.
We may have players from other clubs, Usually senior players who have went to college/work in Belfast and joined. they normally stay for 4/5 years and end up back at their home club. Does no real harm and keeps lads in the game. some people would prefer these guys to be lost to Gaelic Games!!
As for targeting kids there is only one club in Belfast that has been doing that on a regular bases. We have lost lads to them over the past 4/5 years
Are there defined parish boundaries in Belfast as the way I see it in Lurgan there aren't and therefore players can transfer to any of the other clubs with ease. Would LD even be considered a 'real' Belfast team? Their pitch is a good bit out of the way...

I played against them right the way up from U10 to minor and would have certainly considered them a Belfast club.
Most of their players came from the Glen Road schools when I played, so would definitely have been seen as "local" rivals.

Wouldn't say Lamhs are a big club for starters, so you're off the mark with part of your statement :D :D

I think Belfast football is a lot different to the like of Beragh or Slaughtneil. There is no real 'catchment area'. Can you tell me what the catchment area is for each club? Is the Rossa's on the Falls Rd or down near the pitch? If you're from Coolnasilla who should you play for?
Also, underage football is notorious for players changing club. Take Clonoe parish in Tyrone - lads from U10-U16 often drift from Derrylaughen to Clonoe to Brocagh or Derrytresk before settling at senior level.
St Gall's are probably the masters of grabbing players from outside the club, from Fermanagh to St Endas.
