Anybody read the article in todays Irish News? He hit the nail on the head........

The Superbowl had just been played and there has been a lot of coverage over the past few days and it made me think if the GAA could learn a bit from the fixtures schedule. Some points:

New England Patriots played 4 "friendlies" in August
New England played 16 games (with one weekend break) between Sept 11th and Jan 1st
Equivalent of quarter final on Jan 14th
Equivalent of semi final on Jan 22nd
Equivalent of Final on Feb 5th
There are now no games between Feb and August
Competitive season is 5 months long and this is Americas No 1 game
They don't need long breaks between games in regular season or in play offs
The competition is a mixture of league and championship and all teams get lots of games, not just the elite
Surely there are enough smart people in Ireland to sort out the fixtures chaos and come up with a solution that would suit all parties.
And surely there is a solution that would not greatly affect the finances of the GAA (as this is the stumbling block). If American Football can have a 5 month season then the GAA can.

Padraig Duffy is an American football fan as I heard him talking on the radio about it. Maybe he could have a look at their schedule.

If you gave this more thought there are bound to be ideas we could come up with and maybe even keep the provincial councils happy, maybe not totally in the configuration they are currently in!!!!!

Tyrone / Jarlath Burns
August 24, 2016, 12:04:07 PM
I see he has come out in favour of the black card rule...........he seems like a decent man and a true gael but I do find him very irritating to listen to when giving analysis (everything comes down to kick outs won!!!!). As an Ulsterman I would have been in favour of him going for the Presidency but would he just be a YES man?

GAA Discussion / Pauric Duffy
February 21, 2016, 09:37:31 PM
Reading the article on Pauric Duffy/Congress next weekend in Saturday's indo I was dismayed that the man who is supposed to save club football could only talk about looking after the elite underage player.........since going into office he seems to have realised that the elite players bring in the money and the next generation of those must be looked after. The other 90% odd can go to hell as long as the cream are protected. Can someone at Congress stand up for club footballers or are all the delegates only worried about the elite in their counties as well?

I thought the club football final yesterday was terrific entertainment, full of honest endeavour and great scores. I must admit that i much prefer club football to county football, think its the innocence of it all.......county football has become so professional!
In Tyrone club football seems to have slipped so much down the radar of the county board that they seem to view it as an afterthought and that it gets in the way of preparing county teams.
My own club has players on the county minor, U21 and senior squads. You would think that would be great but now it seems that they can no longer play for the club unless they get permission from the county manager to do so. The minors have been told that they cannot train with any club teams (not even their own age level) but they may play in minor league games. The under 21s cannot train with the club or play in pre season games. The seniors cannot train or play with the club.
Its now the middle of March, yet we dont know when or who we play in any fixture this year. How is anyone supposed to plan a weekend away or a holiday? Nobody on the county board seems to care. I mean the seniors are doing well in the league and the U21s are expected to do well, how can a club game be fitted in?
People are saying emmigration is a massive threat to club teams but for me it is the lack of club games and the focus now switching almost exclusively to county football that is the biggest threat to the GAA.
Is this happening in other counties or do we have it really bad in Tyrone?
